Job Description

NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time Environmental Analyst to support the Mohawk River Basin Program (MRBP) which works to conserve, restore, and protect the water quality and natural resources of the Mohawk River through applied research and ecosystem-based management. 

What You’ll Do
As a NEIWPCC Environmental Analyst you will:

  • Assist with the development, coordination, outreach, and implementation of the Mohawk River Basin Program (MRBP) and the MRBP Action Agenda, which includes assisting with Mohawk Phosphorus Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL), Day in the Life of the Mohawk River, Mohawk Watershed Symposium, and DEC’s Drinking Water Source Protection Program (DWSP2).
  • Coordinate with other programs, state agencies, and a network of stakeholders to accomplish program goals. 
  • Engage with communities through developing and delivering presentations on conservation topics.
  • Support monitoring and research projects in the Mohawk Watershed, which includes occasional field work and QAPP writing.

Preferred Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in preserving and advancing water quality. Ideally the candidate will have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, geology, hydrology, biology, natural resources, environmental planning, or a related field, and at least three years of related experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with aspects of water quality and watershed management.
  • Experience with community outreach, stakeholder engagement, or communicating with the public about state and federal programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with scientists, engineers, and managers, the public and regulated community and to establish professional credibility.
  • Ability to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for mapping and spatial analysis 

Logistics
This full-time NEIWPCC position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation office located in Albany, NY. Duties will be performed largely in an office setting with the potential for field work and occasional travel, for which a valid driver’s license and private means of transportation are required. After six months of employment, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule for in-office duties, subject to approval and program needs.
