Job Description

NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time Environmental Analyst to assist with the implementation of source water protection measures for public water systems throughout New York State.
 
What You’ll Do 
As a NEIWPCC Environmental Analyst, you will work alongside internal and external partners to implement the Drinking Water Source Protection Program (DWSP2). You will:

  • Facilitate collaboration and communication to further develop the program.
  • Manage contracts with technical assistance providers and monitor progress of workplans, identifying potential issues and collaborating on solutions.
  • Review and provide detailed feedback on draft plans, deliverables, and final reports.
  • Collect, compile, organize and analyze environmental data (using GIS and R programing) to inform program reporting and implementation.
  • Prepare summary reports and technical documents for stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications 
The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in preserving and advancing water quality. Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, geology, hydrology, biology, natural resources planning, or a related field, and at least three years of related experience. 
  • Knowledge and experience with aspects of water quality and watershed management. 
  • Familiarity with O365 suite, Canva, GIS, relational databases, program languages (e.g., R, python), and form building tools, and ability to manage and evaluate large data sets.
  • Ability to work effectively with scientists, engineers, managers, the public, and the regulated community.

Logistics 
This full-time NEIWPCC position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation office located in Albany, NY. Duties will be performed largely in an office setting with the potential for field work and occasional travel, for which a valid driver’s license and private means of transportation are required. After six months of employment, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule for in-office duties, subject to approval and program needs.
