Assistant Environmental Analyst – Hudson River Stewardship Assistant

Join the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve (HRNERR), one of 30 reserves established in the US to promote informed management of the Nation’s estuaries and coastal habitats. NEIWPCC is seeking a stewardship assistant to join our collaborative team and assist with assessing, protecting, managing, and restoring Hudson River Estuary habitats, including shorelines, tidal wetlands, and submerged aquatic vegetation beds.

What you will do:

• Implement, monitor, and adaptatively manage habitat restoration and enhancement projects.
• Monitor and manage invasive species and support water quality, sediment, vegetation, fish, and wildlife monitoring in tidal wetland, shoreline, and shallow water habitats.
• Assess and map reserve habitats and natural resources.
• Enter and analyze data, prepare summary reports, and develop reserve website content and updates.
• Coordinate volunteer outreach and events.
• Collect seeds, propagate native plants, and manage greenhouse plants and nursery fields.
• Clean, maintain, and repair field equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, botany, natural resources management, or a related field with one year of related experience.
• Interest in responsible management of upland and coastal resources.
• Innovative critical thinking skills, ability to problem solve and propose ideas to streamline processes.
• Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.
• Experience safely operating hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment.
• Previous boating experience.
• Experience with using GPS and maps, QGIS and/or ArcGIS software, and Microsoft Office.

What We Offer:
The anticipated annual salary will start at $55,000 - $65,000. NEIWPCC offers an outstanding comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees:

Position Logistics:
This full-time position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based out of HRNERR’s headquarters in Staatsburg, NY. Duties will be performed in office and field settings with frequent day trips, for which a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation are required. Fieldwork can be physically demanding and rigorous. The ability to physically navigate natural and aquatic environments and lift up to 50lbs is required. Applicants must be able to swim and be comfortable on open water. After six months, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, subject to approval and program needs. Evening and weekend work may occasionally be required.
