The City of Austin, MN is seeking a highly motivated, energetic individual for a full year intern/teacher/naturalist position at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center, a division of our park and recreation department. The ideal candidate would be able to start mid-August, 2026.

Workweek is typically 40 hours per week and will include Saturdays or Sundays. The hourly wage is $15.50/hr. Intern is eligible for city health insurance benefits and will earn public employment retirement contribution (PERA). Intern is also eligible for Minnesota Sick & Safe Leave accrual of one hour of sick and safe time for every 30 hours worked and can earn a maximum of 48 hours for the year. Employment is contingent upon the satisfactory results of a background investigation.

The 518-acre Jay C. Hormel Nature Center preserve was established in 1971 and is located in western Mower County within the city limits of Austin. The Nature Center features restored and remnant prairie, hardwood forest, wetlands, and meandering streams. As you hike the ten miles of trail, you may see deer, mink, raccoons, salamanders, birds, and other native wildlife.
School Programs: Hands-on structured environmental education programs are offered to all ages with an emphasis on preschool through 7th grade.
Bus Tours: Fun, interactive educational programs developed for all ages; includes seasonal offerings such as maple syruping and apple cidering.
Interpretive Center: Features an exhibit display area with live animals, touch tables, mounted animals, nature games, preschool play area, and a nature library.
