For more than 55 years, Environmental Advocates NY (EANY) has worked to protect New York’s air, water, land, and climate. As New York’s oldest state-focused environmental advocacy organization, we combine policy expertise, coalition-building, and public engagement to advance ambitious environmental solutions and hold decision-makers accountable.

About the Role

The Communications & Digital Engagement Associate/Manager will play a central role in shaping how Environmental Advocates NY communicates with supporters, policymakers, partners, and the public. Working closely with Deputy Executive Director Katherine Nadeau, this person will help develop communications strategy while leading day-to-day execution across EANY’s digital platforms and advocacy campaigns.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys both big-picture thinking and hands-on content creation. One day you might be helping shape messaging around a major climate campaign; the next you could be designing graphics for Instagram, drafting an action alert, or analyzing campaign performance.

What You’ll Do

Lead EANY’s digital communications

  • Develop and execute a digital communications strategy that advances EANY’s advocacy priorities.
  • Manage EANY’s social media presence across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok.
  • Create engaging content, including graphics, short-form videos, captions, and campaign assets.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar that aligns digital storytelling with organizational priorities.
  • Track performance metrics and use data to continually improve engagement and impact.

Drive advocacy campaigns

  • Partner with EANY’s policy team to develop and execute communications campaigns around key legislative and policy priorities.
  • Translate complex environmental policy into clear, compelling public narratives.
  • Write action alerts, digital advocacy campaigns, supporter toolkits, and other campaign materials.
  • Develop messaging that mobilizes supporters and helps advance EANY’s policy goals.
  • Monitor news and legislative developments to identify opportunities for rapid response communications.

Grow and engage our community

  • Write and produce email communications, including newsletters, action alerts, fundraising support, and organizational announcements.
  • Support the continued growth of EANY’s influencer engagement program by helping cultivate relationships with creators and developing collaborative content.
  • Help ensure EANY’s voice remains clear, engaging, and consistent across all communications.

Expand EANY’s public profile

  • Collaborate with EANY’s public relations firm, Propulsion Strategies, to identify and secure earned media opportunities.
  • Draft press releases, media materials, talking points, and spokesperson preparation as needed.
  • Help position EANY as a leading voice on environmental issues in New York.
  • Maintain and update EANY’s website, hosted on WordPress and digital advocacy tool, Congress Plus

And other duties as assigned (Albany press conference attendance and set up, bill memo distribution, etc.)

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who is an excellent writer, creative storyteller, and thoughtful strategist—someone who enjoys working across teams and isn’t afraid to jump from big-picture planning to hands-on execution.

The strongest candidates will have:

  • Three or more years of experience in digital organizing, New York State advocacy, digital engagement, political campaigns, public affairs, or a related field.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and platforms.
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts and creating compelling digital content.
  • Strong graphic design skills using Canva or similar tools.
  • Experience translating complex issues into accessible, engaging communications.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced advocacy environment where priorities can shift quickly.
  • A collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working across policy, communications, and development teams.

Experience with Constant Contact, WordPress, Congress Plus, DonorPerfect, or similar platforms is a plus, but we’re happy to teach the right candidate.

Knowledge of New York politics, public policy, or environmental issues is preferred but not required.

Location & Travel

It is anticipated and preferred that this position be based in EANY’s Albany office. Qualified candidates who reside outside of the Albany area may be considered but the ability to routinely travel to Albany and New York City is necessary to perform the position’s job duties. This position is also expected to travel outside of the Albany area as needed.

Why Join EANY?

This is an exciting moment for environmental advocacy in New York. Federal environmental protections are under increasing pressure, making state leadership more important than ever. At EANY, you’ll help shape the public conversation around some of New York’s most important environmental issues while working alongside a collaborative, mission-driven team committed to making lasting change.

EANY is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to leadership that aligns with JEDI values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. We invite applicants to read about our foundational values and strongly encourage candidates from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to apply.
