JOB TITLE: Environmental Manager
SUMMARY: Maintain the lands and waters of Woodhaven for the benefit of wildlife, property owners, and the overall ecosystem. Educate, train, and supervise staff on what needs to be done and how. Educate & promote to the membership the value of a properly managed environment and what Woodhaven has.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Oversee bait shop including staffing, technical issues, and running all fishing tournaments through the Fish Donkey app.
· Monitor lakes for optimal health and stability of Woodhaven’s water bodies including removal and control of aquatic weeds.
· Conduct periodic creel surveys, fishing license inspections while providing/receiving feedback from property owners.
· Provide recommendations regarding structures and recreational facilities/usage in conjunction with the lakes.
· Monitor use of Woodhaven lakes, watching for and reporting violations such as catch limits, size limits, etc. and warning violators of rule infractions and issuing warnings.
· Manage the following Resource activities including but not limited to lakes management, tree permits, resource requests, and goose oiling protocol.
· Evaluate, plan and implement a restoration management plan for all preservation areas, prairies, wetlands and natural areas.
· Plan and implement seasonal prairie and natural area-controlled burns.
· Assist with reforestation efforts including but not limited to tree planting, spraying and evaluating.
· Prepare various written materials including articles, environmental management reports, promotional materials, and educational activities.
· Develop budget for approval, purchases supplies/equipment, and monitors income and expenses.
· Respond to property owner’s concerns either orally or in writing.
· Issue written and oral instructions.
· Maintain harmony among workers and resolve grievances.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises up to 4 seasonal employees in the Bait Shop. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
Requires a high level of general educational development and/or a professional level of knowledge in a specific field equivalent to that acquired by completing a bachelor’s degree program in an accredited four-year college or university.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT:
Ability to perform work typically received in the form of projects and results expected, having considerable freedom to decide on priorities and procedures to follow.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Driver’s License.
General standards and Aquatic Pesticide Applicator License.
Ability to operate watercraft.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Familiarity with principles and practices of aquatic management including aquatic plant and animal life.
Familiarity with land plants and animal life.
Familiarity with Woodhaven property and facilities.
Ability to effectively operate a truck and trailer.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Two pools and a beach provide a great way for families to relax and cool off during the hot summer months. Our year-round recreation staff provides structured recreation programs and services throughout the year.
Wildlife is abundant at Woodhaven and it’s very common to see deer frolicking through the prairies during all seasons.
