The School for Field Studies (SFS), the nation's oldest and largest field-based, environmental study abroad program is headquartered in historic Salem, Massachusetts. SFS creates transformative study abroad experiences through field-based learning and research. It offers fully accredited, college level courses on a semester and summer basis, and conducts research for community clients through its five-year research plans.
SFS operates field centers in Australia, Costa Rica, Kenya, Mexico, Tanzania, & Turks and Caicos with full time resident faculty and staff, and also offers a summer program in Bhutan. Its educational programs explore the human and ecological dimensions of the complex environmental problems faced by its local partners, contributing to sustainable solutions in the places where people live and work.
