Internship- Paid
This select 12-week paid internship program begins June 2020 and ends August 2020. Summary  The New York Power Authority is looking for a Utility Forestry Summer Intern who will assist in: - Day to day Integrated Vegetation Management program oversight and enhancement - Field Vegetation Data Verification, Collection, Evaluation, and Analysis - GIS Database organization and analysis - GIS program utilization and enhancement - Evaluation of new technologies and processes Knowledge, Skills and Abilities the intern will walk away with after this internship  At the end of this internship the successful candidate will walk away with practical Utility Vegetation Management exposure, Forest Measurement skills, Hazard Tree evaluation Skills, Field Navigation,  Strengthened ESRI GIS Skills, NYS terrestrial Invasive Species Identification Skills Basic Principals of IVM (Integrated Vegetation Management),  Exposure to Utility Vegetation Management Operations, Broad exposure to the complexities of the Electric Transmission Industry, exposure to cutting edge technologies in remote data sensing, Drone (UAS) Utilization, Lidar modeling, and more. Upon completion, the successful candidate will have confidence entering a real Vegetation Management working environment as well as the ability to identify how various technologies are utilized in and enhance an already robust vegetation management system. Education, Experience and Certifications  3 to 4 years completed of Natural Resource Management degree program.  Ability to Identify Trees and Shrubs common to New York State.  Ability and interest to utilize ESRI ARCGIS including practicum level of experience with ARCGIS Online. Basic Understanding of ROW ecology. Basic database management Skills including strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access.
