Ketchikan Indian Community

The mission of the Deer Mountain Tribal Hatchery and Eagle Center is to promote public service through conservation, education, and stewardship of the indigenous birds and fish of Southeast Alaska. 
 
Operation of a facility for the care of sick and injured wildlife, especially eagles, and promoting knowledge and appreciation of the culture ties between the Native People of Southeast Alaska and wildlife of Southeast Alaska. 
 
Development and implementation of high-quality programs for the benefit of our wildlife and their habitat, specifically those species of Native American cultural and traditional importance  conduct field surveys and population monitoring  conduct natural history studies and provide public education on habitat preservation and wildlife conservation.
 
The Deer Mountain Tribal Hatchery and Eagle Center (DMTHEC) provides educational tours to visitors while presenting the cultural significance of selected species in our presentations. We are a Tribally managed and operated hatchery and therefore promote Native values throughout the operation.
