The Environmental Protection Department was created in 1992 to provide a wide array of services for the Seneca communities, along with regulating and permitting environmentally sensitive issues within all territories of the Seneca Nation. The purpose of this department is to protect the natural environment of the Seneca territories, to take affirmative action, to restore and enhance environmental quality in areas that have been subject to degradation, and to ensure that no proposed development that might cause significant environmental degradation will be permitted prior to the completion of a thorough environmental review in which alternatives and mitigation measures are fully considered.

Job Description The senior staff GIS Analyst (GIS Technician II) is a High-Level technical position, and requires a minimum of five years experience with GIS technology. The senior staff GIS Analyst also designs, creates and modifies the government-based GIS software to best serve the needs of the Seneca Nation’s various departments and enterprises, as well as the larger community. The senior Staff GIS Analyst will be called upon to collect, compile, and maintain accurate data for GIS databases, using GPS, mapping research, and analytical skills. The senior staff GIS Analyst may also be tasked with the development and implementation of specific GIS tools to assist end users with daily mapping and analysis. The Senior Staff GIS Analyst shall also provide technical guidance to other GIS Professionals. Work is performed under supervision of GIS Division Manager. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in GIS or related field, plus 5-10 years relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Thorough knowledge of ESRI products, specifically the ArcGIS suite of software and extensions, including server technology, published services and building web mapping applications. Working knowledge of other GIS technologies and software. Professional certification a plus. • Knowledge of other disciplines as a result of working with various government departments and agencies on large projects. • Must be physically fit and possess a valid NYS driver’s license. • Knowledge of Seneca customs, traditions, and practices helpful; ability to work in diverse cultural environment required.
