Job Description: The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking an entry-level Staff Scientist/Geologist to support our growing Environmental Services business.  The desired candidate must be a team player with the ability to handle multiple project assignments in a fast-paced working environment. Candidates must be detail-oriented and efficient, possess good oral and written communication, and have good organizational and time management skills. The candidate must also be willing to learn new skills as required and want to advance their career. Job Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities are related to environmental projects. Work on a variety of environmental projects ranging from investigations/assessments, remediation, regulatory compliance including permitting and planning, client due diligence (Phase I/II ESAs), and sample collection, packaging and shipping. Schedule, coordinate, perform and oversee fieldwork in conjunction with the project manager. Assist with data reduction, report writing and preparation. Required Skills/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental sciences, earth sciences or biology. A Master’s degree is preferred, but not required; training will be provided as needed. 2-3 years of relevant professional work experience. G.I.T. preferred, but not required. Current 40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred; ability to obtain required. Annual medical screenings after employment. Proficiency in report preparation using presentation software such as Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Valid driver's license. Ability to drive a company vehicle and travel in state and out of state (sometimes for extended periods) for field work as dictated by project demands. Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to work overtime during weekdays and occasionally weekends as needed. Other Requirements: Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check. Ability to pass a pre-employment employment drug screening.
