Job Summary The Environmental Education Instructor position is designed to build a foundation to the professional fields of environmental education and interpretation. The duties include teaching programs for: school groups, scouts, summer day camps, and public programs. Program topics may include voyageurs,lake or fish ecology, prairies, food chain, nature restoration, animal adaptations, geology, outdoor skills and earth sciences. Instructors work one weekend day per week and some evenings except during the summer day camp season when the work schedule is primarily Mon-Fri. Essential Functions & Experience Essential Functions   - Conducts environmental education, youth stewardship education, and outdoor skills programs for children and adults in various preserves throughout the District, and occasionally outside the County. Provides input and assists with the development of new programs and related materials including PowerPoint presentations, posters, handouts, laminated pictures, crafts, costumes, skits, etc. This position interacts in many ways with the public such as interpreting natural history and District operations and policies for the general public in person and by telephone. Responsible for the Welcome Center operations on weekends and some weekdays. Organize and inventory educational supplies and equipment used for environmental education and outdoor skill programs. Makes suggestions on equipment and supply purchases. Responsible for maintenance and feedings of reptiles, amphibians, raptors, and invertebrates. Assists with special events. Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations. Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and sitting. Performs lifting tasks up to 50 pounds. Experience   - Two years of course work in earth sciences, natural resources, education, interpretation or a related field.Teaching experience preferred. Must have enthusiasm and respect for people, teaching, and the environment. Education and communication skills necessary to present educational programs for large and small groups of children and adults. Ability to operate audio-visual equipment and word processing software. Upon employment, must successfully complete and obtain certification in American Red Cross CPR and First Aid .  Ability to beflexible and work with a variety of personalities and work environments. Job Summary Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a summer program designed to employ high school youth in natural resources, construction, and park maintenance related projects. The Assistant Manager aids in the pre-season organization and management of the day-to-day operations of the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) and assists with program development.  Hours will vary during the pre-season beginning in February of each year but, will work   40 hours a week from May - August . Essential Functions & Experience Essential Functions   -  Supervises YCC Crew Leaders engaged in conservation/development projects.  Assists with program development, training and project management.  Maintains a safe work environment through hazard recognition and implementation of safety guidelines.  Establishes good public relations and working relations with outside sources of possible funding for YCC.  Drives a motorized vehicle to travel to different locations.  Performs tasks that will require walking, bending, stooping, standing, kneeling, climbing, reaching and sitting.  Performs heavy lifting tasks up to 50 pounds. Experience   -   Completion of High School Diploma.  One year experience in supervision of youth.  Working knowledge of environmental education, conservation, construction, and grounds maintenance fields.  Must possess a valid motor vehicle driver's license. YOUTH CONSERVATION CORPS Crew Member Recruitment Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) is a summer program designed to employ high school youth in natural resources, construction, and park maintenance related projects. Crew members work together in teams to build trails and boardwalks, restore natural areas and waterways, and complete basic preserve maintenance projects. Additionally, crew members receive training in first aid, basic work and life skills, construction skills and environmental awareness.
