As an environmental studies major, you'll investigate pressing domestic and global environmental problems, observe the natural world and gain insight into the creation of a more sustainable future. You'll also spend time exploring and studying Virginia's forests, mountains, streams, rivers, lakes, farms, urban and rural human communities. You'll have the chance to study conservation ecology abroad in places like the Yucatan or India with our faculty.

Visiting Assistant Professor (PhD)   or   Visiting Instructor (ABD)   in Environmental Studies. The Environmental Studies program at Roanoke College is seeking a PhD or ABD to teach introductory and upper-level courses in environmental science as well as teaching courses in the college’s general education curriculum during the 2019-2020 academic year.  Candidate must be committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and be able to collaborate with colleagues as part of an interdisciplinary program. We value proven teaching experience, interest in community engagement and experiential learning, and the ability to work closely with students and colleagues within a liberal arts college setting. The successful applicant will teach and participate in the development of 7 classes per year, including courses in the distinctive inquiry-based general education program of Roanoke College.  The ideal applicant will have a Ph.D. in the Environmental Sciences, Socio-Environmental Systems, or closely related fields. The ability to teach introductory Environmental Science with laboratory and upper level environmental science courses (in the candidate’s area of specialty) is required; the ability to also teach GIS is preferred.
