Job Summary Seasonal Position, Grade H08. 120 hours unpaid status - 150 hours paid status. No benefits. Performs entry level assistance with technical aquarium work in caring for live specimens in the County's Marine Museum. Work involves study and application of aquarium science and techniques to the feeding and caring of aquatic animals. Work involves public demonstration of live animals. Work is performed under technical supervision. Essential Job Functions/Other Duties/KSA : Assists aquarium staff in ensuring that animals are maintained in a healthy, humane manner. Cleans aquariums and associated plumbing, pumps, and filters. Presents educational programs by demonstrating live animals at touch tank. Other Job Duties Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.) Knowledge of-- Basic principles and practice of aquarium science. Ability to-- Perform technical aquarist duties in caring for animals. Deal effectively with the public. Minimum Qualifications : Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.) Training and/or Education: High school or GED equivalent. College course work in natural history or biology preferred.
