If you are passionate about the military and providing clean and reliable water to West Point, we encourage you to apply today.  Primary Role Responsible for gathering, producing, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting of Geographic Information System (GIS) data; preparing and updating maps and exhibits with GIS data sets; and using GIS data, applications, and tools to identify and solve problems for the engineering and operations staff. Utilize GPS to locate and field verify assets. Support asset management through a GIS-centric Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Key Accountabilities Operate computer workstation to create and update maps for internal and external use utilizing latest ESRI software. Convert data collected from field operations into GIS database with proper and accurate spatial location. Maintain GIS attribute tables from data collected through various sources. Assure data consistency with company-wide standards and practices for data conversion and data maintenance in order to provide asset-related metrics to decision makers. Interface directly with capital and operations staff to confirm capital improvement projects are documented within the GIS data Coordinate with client to fulfill contractual requirements and requests. Perform routine data validation and QA/QC checks to ensure GIS data integrity. Generate reports and GIS exports to support business needs. Assist with creation, maintenance and utilization of GIS-centric CMMS program through routine coordination with operation staff. Support the asset management program as needed including GIS – CMMS configuration, updating equipment tables and customizing the user interface. Utilize mapping grade GPS to field verify and accurately locate assets and update GIS data accordingly. Configure GPS settings to collect location data within horizontal and vertical tolerance limits and post process GPS data as needed. Continue to develop expertise in GIS. Participate in workshops, training, or vendor presentations introducing evolving GIS technology, new products and upgrades. Perform other related functions to support the GIS program and other duties as needed. Knowledge/Skills Detail-oriented to conduct thorough analyses and evaluations, render and implement timely decisions and recommendations. Ability to work independently and manage time across multiple projects and deadlines. Ability to seek input/feedback and coordinate with other team members. Good communications skills. Proficient in use of tablet and handheld electronic devices. Understanding of GIS software, topology/geometric network techniques, data model formats, and data conversion practices. Working knowledge of GIS related software, desktop mapping, web mapping, GPS, and database/spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of CAD and related software and GIS/CADD interoperability. Familiarity with relational databases and working within a SQL enterprise environment Experience/Education Associate's degree or equivalent course work at a technical or vocational school, in geographic information systems, geography, planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, computer science, or a related field. This position is designed to engage interested students in the water utility industry. The GIS Intern will assist in the performance of technical work related to designing, maintaining and producing geographic data and graphics through an automated geographic information system (GIS).  The main objective of this position is to offer an opportunity for hands-on learning to the student in their field of study. Key Accountabilities Provide GIS support to project staff and client technical staff including but not limited to creating and maintaining map products or concept level project drawings using ERSI software platform. Under general supervision, utilize GIS to update and maintain the water and wastewater utility asset inventory. Assist project staff with integration of GIS inventory, CMMS program and financial systems. Under general supervision, perform GPS surveys to utilize mapping grade GPS receivers and mobile mapping tools for daily fieldwork. Follow all company Environmental, Health and Safety policies; wear and work in the proper personal protective equipment (provided by the company). Knowledge/Skills Basic ability to interpret AutoCAD (computer-aided design) software and drawings. Basic use of mapping grade GPS receivers. Operation of ERSI GIS software.
