VHB is seeking an Environmental Planner to join our growing Watertown, MA office. We provide environmental planning, sustainability, resiliency, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act (MEPA) services to airports, federal and state departments of transportation, and others. With a focus on strategic planning, policy development, compliance, and supporting technical analysis, VHB helps nation-wide clients meet regulatory requirements and identify and achieve their sustainability goals. Candidates for this position should demonstrate their ability to accomplish multiple tasks concurrently, work with teams, and provide excellent client service with innovative and strategic solutions. VHB provides NEPA services to federal agencies and state departments of transportation to help them successfully define the project’s purpose and need, develop and analyze alternatives, analyze environmental impacts, and develop mitigation programs as required. Our NEPA services also include agency coordination, public outreach, and GIS/mapping. Candidates should provide information on their MEPA and NEPA experience, including the preparation of documentation such as Environmental Impact Reports (MEPA), and Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements (NEPA). Our environmental- and sustainability-focused reports and plans address topics that include, but are not limited to, air quality/greenhouse gas emissions, climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy efficiency and renewable energy, water conservation and water quality, natural resource management, land use, solid waste management, community engagement, health and well-being, social responsibility, and economic viability. Our work also emphasizes sustainable planning, design, and construction. Responsibilities Participate in MEPA/NEPA and similar environmental review processes and prepare required environmental documentation Develop sustainability plans, implementation strategies, and reports Conduct and report on relevant environmental and sustainability technical analyses, as well as review analyses performed by others Collaborate with colleagues throughout VHB’s multidisciplinary practice Represent VHB with clientsPlan and participate in stakeholder meetings, public workshops, and public hearings Provide quality assurance and control Manage tasks on projects, including management of task-level scope, schedule, and budget Skills and Abilities Excellent verbal, analytical, written, and interpersonal communication skills Detail-oriented Team-oriented Leadership and mentoring skills Self-motivated Excellent organizational skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) Ability to communicate technical information and results verbally and graphically Capable of coordinating and performing multiple tasks Research, data management, and analytical skills Ability to problem solve and think creatively Ability to travel Qualifications B.S./B.A. in urban planning, environmental planning, environmental science, or a related field.
