Position Overview Demand Management Co-op: Who we are:   Tampa Bay Water is a wholesale water supply agency created in 1998 by our six member governments: Hillsborough County, Pasco County, Pinellas County, New Port Richey, St. Petersburg and Tampa, who in turn serve more than 2.5 million citizens in the Tampa Bay region. Tampa Bay Water reliably provides clean, safe water to the region now and for future generations. What is Demand Management?   Water demand management is a programmatic way to increase water use efficiency through either short or long-term programs.  Tampa Bay Water is responsible for planning and coordinating water conservation programs in the region. The agency develops practices used to evaluate conservation programs in the region and researches what types of efforts increase their use, market penetration and efficiency. The Agency also develops comprehensive demand management strategies that could be used to penetrate local markets and quantifiably increase water use efficiency for new and existing potable water uses.  Essential Functions What will I do?   A demand management co-op at Tampa Bay Water will have the opportunity to work with a diversified group of staff who are helping the agency provide clean, safe drinking water in the most cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner. The demand management co-op will work with the Demand Management Coordinator, along with other members of the Systems section. Co-ops are given the opportunity to perform a wide variety of demand management development and evaluation support responsibilities including: Coordinating water conservation programs in the tri-county, Tampa Bay Water region. Evaluating conservation programs and policies. Development of white papers on various research topics. Researching water use and development of graphics and output for use by others. Evaluating specific program cost and overall effectiveness. Developing measures for regional water use efficiency efforts. What will I learn? Tampa Bay Water offers co-ops a great opportunity to learn about: Evaluating demand management programming. The role and application of regional cooperation. Applying environmental science skills in a non-profit, government agency. Working with and speaking to water conservation industry peers. Strategizing and implementing demand management plans, programs, and program elements. Our objective is to assist college students who are interested in pursuing careers in environmental sciences and technology, in taking what they have learned in the classroom and applying it in a real-world, business setting. Students will be given the opportunity to tweak research and speaking skills, understand the value and techniques of demand management, improve their business literacy and develop thesis work (if applicable).
