The Environmental Directorate, located at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, is part of the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, a 1,900-person primary subordinate unit assigned to Air Force Materiel Command and attached to the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center-Provisional. It is responsible for planning, managing, and programming Air Force restoration, compliance, sustainability, technical support, and operations. This directorate provides environmental technical assistance and advice to Air Force headquarters, installations, and stakeholders. The directorate develops execution strategies for environmental restoration and compliance projects and programs based on best practices garnered from experience and research.
The directorate is supported by environmental subject matter experts and specialists, along with program, regional, and installation managers. Each branch of this environmental directorate is staffed with expert personnel with honed knowledge and skills in subjects including, but not limited to, regulatory, restoration, compliance, sustainability, technical support, and operations. This directorate is organized into the following six divisions: National Environmental Policy Act, environmental restoration, technical support, compliance, operations, and legislative and regulatory engagement.
