NOTE: This position will be filled at the appropriate level based on the experience level of the selected candidate, final scope of job responsibilities and job requirements.   Description Responsible for environmental compliance at SoCalGas' facilities located in Southern California.  Serves as company expert primarily in air quality.  Provides technical consulting expertise to internal clients, peers and all levels of management on environmental matters including South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) RECLAIM, Title V, GHG, SPCC, SWPPP, HazMat, and LA County Sanitation District programs.  Review, assist, and/or manage multiple, complex, cross-discipline environmental projects onsite.  Acts as a key strategic contributor to ensure company compliance with specific laws to support business objectives and initiatives.  Advocates the company position to government agencies, such as SCAQMD inspectors, to provide flexibility to company operations in meeting environmental requirements. Conducts and oversees complex analysis of the potential effects of existing and proposed company operations on the environment.  Prepares and submits environmental reports, plans and permits and/or oversees consultants assisting with reports/plans/permits. Conducts field work to obtain data and ensure operational compliance. Routinely anticipates, identifies, analyzes and interprets regulatory requirements and/or environmental issues affecting company operations to develop strategies to implement compliance and mitigate the impact to company operations.  Must possess and be able to maintain a valid driver's license. External Qualifications: Qualifications Typically a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or environmental science is required. Related graduate level course work, master's degree and/or environmental certifications such as CPP, QSP, etc. preferred. Equivalent work experience or training may be substituted for the degree. Minimum 8 years required, 10 years environmental experience desired, with significant work in air quality compliance. Education, certifications, and/or other relevant work experience may be substituted for minimum years required. Strong analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of all levels of air quality laws, regulations, and the energy sector are required. Strong leadership, strategic thinking, negotiation skills, tact and diplomacy skills are required to negotiate favorable decisions from regulatory agencies and also satisfy multiple company clients with differing needs. Initiative and ingenuity are required in all aspects of this position including ability to respond to emergencies. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong presentation/training/public speaking skills are required. Must be proficient with MS Excel and have working knowledge of GIS, AutoCAD, and other computer software related to the technical area, and be able to work with minimal oversight. Must be comfortable conducting field work independently, such as visiting remote locations and working in inclement weather. Must have successfully passed, or be able to pass within 30 days of hire, initial defensive driving training and the annual refresher.
