We are currently seeking an Environmental Specialist to join the Transportation-Infrastructure Practice.     From managed toll lanes and long-range corridor plans to complex interchanges, major roadway, and segmental bridge designs, our teams provide the highest quality planning, environmental and engineering design solutions to our clients.  Each day, we partner with transportation agencies and local governments across the country to keep our communities moving and improving the overall quality of life.   By joining our team, you too can lead the evolution of transportation.   The Opportunity The Environmental Specialist will be responsible for conducting environmental assessments required to meet the requirements of NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) and assisting with a variety of environmental tasks including permitting associated with transportation and infrastructure improvement projects. Field work will include wetland assessments, wildlife surveys, highway traffic and other environmental evaluations. The successful candidate will also assist with preparing maps using GIS, Environmental Permit Applications, and NEPA documents such as Environmental Assessments, Natural Resource Evaluations, and Noise Study Reports.   Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in an environmental science or engineering curriculum from an accredited university 1-5 years of work experience in the environmental or engineering fields Working knowledge of Word, Excel, MicroStation/AutoCAD, and GIS Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with NEPA and environmental permitting requirements for FDOT and other transportation projects preferred Ability to demonstrate experience, in whole or part, preparing text, tables and figures for interpretive scientific reports preferred Multi-disciplined experience in engineering and science preferred Willingness to travel preferred   Core Competencies :   In addition to the position’s skills, education and experience requirements, the following RS&H competencies are considered foundational to understanding performance, now and in the future. The Opportunity  This individual will be part of the newly formed Environmental Stewardship and Resiliency (ESR) Service Group providing environmental compliance and planning consulting services to Aviation clients nationally. As a key member of the ESR Service Group, this individual will help Aviation project managers and professionals identify and resolve environmental compliance challenges associated with large building and infrastructure programs as well as ongoing airport operations. Further, the individual will help identify and incorporate sustainability measures and approaches to make our projects more resilient to the ever changing conditions with which our nation's airports operate. The Columbus PM staff position will provide direct support for activities related to ESR, project pursuits and project delivery in the Great Lakes region and the practice firm-wide. The ideal candidate will have 10-15 years' experience providing a broad array of aviation and private industry environmental compliance and planning services. Broad compliance expertise in water (drinking, storm, and industrial waste), storm-water permitting, oil spill prevention and management, fuel management, hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste management, and compliance management system and auditing programs desired. Interests in developing proactive environmental programs and plans including operational sustainability, restoration and long-term adaptation and resiliency.   Requirements: Requires an accredited Bachelor's or  Master's degree in environmental sciences, Engineering, or related field Experience preparing regulatory documents needed to meet federal and state-specific environmental laws and regulations and FAA orders associated with compliance with federal laws and regulations. Experience in preparing NEPA documentation for airport improvement projects a plus. Strong verbal, written and presentation skills Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is essential for use in completing assignments Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment and be highly responsive to client deadlines. Preferred Qualifications: Experienced understanding of airport environment and associated operations Sustainability rating system certifications (LEED, Envision, etc.) or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire Certification by a professional society or a state regulatory board in the discipline of practice is desired, if applicable.
