Interested candidates must have a willingness to perform wetland delineations, stream assessments, and habitat evaluations for threatened and endangered species. The scientist will prepare 404 permit applications and conduct general environmental tasks supporting various projects including environmental, transportation planning, traffic operations, roadway design, and land development/site civil design projects. Candidates must be able to handle strenuous fieldwork. The qualified candidate will have knowledge of geological and biological sciences, natural resource regulations, water quality regulatory programs, wetlands identification including knowledge of local botany and soil science, and experience in chemistry, ecology, geology, water resources, geographic information systems (GIS) and environmental science. Position Requirements: BS or MS in Environmental Science, Botany, Biology, Ecology, or comparable Natural Resources degree 2-5 years of relevant experience Ability to conduct fieldwork with minimal supervision Strong technical writing skills Strong interpersonal skills Desire to work in both an office environment and in the field Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines Ability to manage multiple priorities Ability to work independently and on a team Flexibility to travel to other offices and cities for projects as needed Valid driver's license required Desired Qualifications: Field experience Experience writing technical reports GIS, Word, Excel Wetland delineation training (40-hour) and certification is a plus Experience with environmental compliance and mitigation monitoring Familiarity with NEPA and the Virginia SERP Phase I ESA experience Qualifications Education Required Bachelors or better in Environmental Science or related field.
