  Display Horticulturist, Bonsai and Japanese Courtyard Garden Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens   Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is empowered by its mission to inspire and educate all with the beauty and importance of plants; to advance sustainability and promote human and environmental well-being through action and research; and to celebrate its historic glasshouse.   Phipps is seeking a full-time Display Horticulturist to be responsible for the day-to-day care of the Bonsai and Japanese Courtyard Garden , assuring exceptional horticulture and immaculate maintenance at all times. The Display Horticulturist will take a lead role in designing the annual tropical bonsai exhibit and other displays involving the bonsai collection. In addition to horticultural responsibilities, this position will develop and present bonsai classes and related educational programs, as well as write articles and represent Phipps in relation to bonsai. The Display Horticulturist will also assist with installation, maintenance and teardown of flower shows, special exhibits, display rooms, and other areas of the Conservatory as needed.   A bachelor's degree in horticulture or plant-related field is required, along with extensive knowledge and experience in bonsai and Japanese gardening techniques. Two years’ experience in growing and maintaining plants in a professional capacity using the highest industry standards, excellent written and verbal communication skills and a willingness to interact graciously with the general public are required.   Sustainable Landcare Program Coordinator Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens   Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is empowered by its mission to inspire and educate all with the beauty and importance of plants; to advance sustainability and promote human and environmental well-being through action and research; and to celebrate its historic glasshouse.   Phipps is seeking a full-time Sustainable Landcare Program Coordinator to oversee all aspects of the Sustainable Landcare Accreditation Program. The Coordinator will work with landscapers, ground crews, nurseries, partner organizations, and the general public to greatly reduce the use of pesticides and hep grow both the supply and demand for sustainable plants and ecologically appropriate landscape services, increasing the use of native plants and rain gardens. Responsibilities will include developing and providing resources and training to accredited professionals; coordinating our Dr. Phipps program and outreach strategies to place an emphasis on Sustainable Landcare; and working with Horticulture to coordinate our Top Ten Sustainable Program, helping to increase knowledge of a diverse and ecologically appropriate plant palette for our region.   A bachelor’s degree in horticulture, landscape design, or a related field is required, with at least 3 years of experience with hands-on landscaping or nursery work. Experience working in outreach, community education, or other relevant areas is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a willingness to interact graciously with the general public are required. Evening and weekend work may be required.
