  Seasonal Grower, Edible Gardens Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens   Esteemed as the Green Heart of Pittsburgh and one of the world’s greenest public gardens, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is empowered by its mission to inspire and educate all with the beauty and importance of plants; to advance sustainability and promote human and environmental well-being through action and research; and to celebrate its historic glasshouse.   Phipps is seeking a temporary Seasonal Grower to maintain and care for plants in the Conservatory and gardens, focusing on edible garden spaces. Duties will include watering, weeding, fertilizing, pruning and deadheading, as well as assistance with production, installation and harvesting. The Seasonal Grower will work in all edible areas of the Conservatory using a variety of methods, including hydroponics.   The temporary Seasonal Grower position lasts for 6 months beginning in March 2019, working 40 hours/week. A bachelor's degree in horticulture or plant-related field or equivalent experience preferred, along with knowledge and practice of highest industry standards of plant production. Building Maintenance Technician Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens   Established in 1893, Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is a green leader among public gardens with a mission to inspire and educate all with the beauty and importance of plants; to advance sustainability and promote human and environmental well-being through action and research; and to celebrate our historic glasshouse.   Phipps is seeking a full-time Building Maintenance Technician to operate, install and maintain all building equipment, including electrical equipment, boilers, generators, air conditioning, fans and related machinery, as well as preventive and emergency maintenance on plumbing and hydraulics. Also included in responsibilities is the maintenance, repair and commissioning of all renewable energy sources including solar panel arrays and wind turbine. The Building Maintenance Technician will work with other departments to ensure ongoing operation of the facility, including assisting with show installations and seasonal displays.   The qualified candidate must have an excellent attendance record and work ethic, as well as the ability to work independently. A degree in an appropriate field and 3-5 years’ relevant work experience are required, as well as a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. Must have evening, weekend and holiday availability.
