Psomas, one of the top-ranked consulting engineering firms in the nation, providing surveying, engineering, construction management and environmental services throughout the Western United States, has an opening for a  Botanist  in our Santa Ana office.  Description:   The Botanist will be responsible for assessing the botanical resources on project sites throughout Southern California. Fieldwork will include general biological resource assessments, vegetation mapping, habitat restoration monitoring, and focused surveys for special status plant species. Office tasks will include conducting literature reviews and documenting survey findings in the appropriate technical report for submittal to our clients and the resource agencies. Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate that they are familiar with common plant species and vegetation types in the region. Duties and Responsibilities: Reviews California Natural Diversity Database (CNDDB) and California Native Plant Society (CNPS) database output and submits proposed list and database results to Supervisor for review. Assess habitat suitability of a site for special status plant species. Conducts vegetation mapping/general plant surveys; vegetation map/plant compendium reviewed by Supervisor. Monitors status of habitat restoration sites. Assists with focused surveys; may lead a secondary team. Occasionally work irregular hours. Some travel required. Identifies unknown plants by keying them. Writes technical reports to be reviewed by Supervisor. May attend meetings with resource agencies to provide technical information. Coordinates with project team members.
