Position Description:   Louis Berger currently is seeking a highly motivated individual for an environmental scientist/planner for work in the Power and Energy market, including electric transmission siting, wind, solar, hydropower, and/or natural gas.  This role will be a part of the growing team responsible for managing all aspects of planning, siting, and permitting energy projects. Some travel will be required.   The company operates permanent and project offices in over 25 locations in the U.S. and is seeking an Environmental Scientist/Planner to join our team in either Cincinnati, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, or Indianapolis, IN.  Responsibilities : Successfully manage projects, including energy project siting/routing and/or environmental permitting. Independently interact with clients, serving as a client service manager. Plan and oversee natural resource fieldwork, including bird and bat, cultural, wetland delineation, and other studies. Wetland delineations and/or biological fieldwork experience is preferred, but not required. Write survey reports and prepare permit applications for federal and/or state environmental permits, including U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 404 and Section 10, state wetland and stream permits, NPDES, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service coordination, and state natural heritage agency coordination. Participate in linear energy planning/routing/siting studies including writing routing reports for submission to state public utility commissions. Experience with developing state and federal environmental permit applications and supporting documentation for public utility commissions in PA, OH, IN, and other Midwestern states is preferred. Liaison with client, agencies and consultant team members. Coordinate public outreach efforts, including public open house meeting planning and public and agency comment response organization. Attention and commitment to timely completion of high-quality work, often independently motivated. Excellent written and oral communication skills Qualifications Experience: BS/BA in environmental studies, planning, natural resources, engineering or related field. MS/MA in related field may substitute for some experience and is preferred, but not required. 10-15 years of relevant experience with increasing responsibility conducting research, assisting with project management, analyzing data, and preparing written documents for energy-related projects. Relationships and working experience with AEP, FirstEnergy, and other electric utilities is preferred. Project Manager for energy siting and/or permitting projects. Experience working with state and federal natural resource agencies. Specialization in a relevant environmental resource or project management field is a plus. Overview Geologist or Environmental Scientist to lead efforts for ASTM-compliant Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, site and remedial investigations, and oversight of remedial actions. Responsibilities will encompass both office and field activities. Office activities may include preparing proposals, reviewing and interpreting historical documents and reports, preparing planning documents, reducing and interpreting data, and preparing technical reports. Field activities may include site reconnaissance, sampling of various environmental media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and air), oversight of soil borings and monitoring well installations, oversight of remedial construction, and other related tasks. Candidates must have the capacity to work outdoors in all seasons in all weather and have the ability to communicate effectively with other team members and project managers.
