CARBON ASSET RISK INTERN (IN BOSTON OFFICE)
Climate change is real and a good majority of fossil fuel companies acknowledge this, at least rhetorically. How they translate that acknowledgement into risk oversight and capital planning is another thing, however -- some companies are starting to manage climate risk in a robust way and some continue to opt for inaction. Ceres' Carbon Asset Risk initiative works with investors who engage these companies on climate and energy transition issues, with a focus on high-cost, high-carbon oil & gas projects that face the most risk of becoming uneconomic.

Graduate students preferred, but all will be considered.
TRANSPORTATION INTERN (IN BOSTON OFFICE)
The Ceres Transportation Team intern will work directly with both the Senior Director of Transportation and the Senior Manager of Clean Vehicles at Ceres.
A clean and efficient transportation system is critical to a strong U.S. economy, with benefits including saving consumers and businesses money as well as reducing our dependence on oil. Transportation is also a significant contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) and other criteria air pollutant emissions. In fact, in 2016, the transportation sector surpassed the electric power sector as the largest emitter of GHG emissions in the United States, accounting for 28% of GHG emissions – more emissions than any other nation's entire economy, with the exception of China.
To expediently reduce harmful emissions coming out of the U.S. transportation sector and improve air quality and human health, we must focus on three components: vehicles, fuels and infrastructure. In 2019, the Ceres Transportation Program's primary focus is to advocate for clean transportation policies, including clean vehicle and fuels policies, accelerate corporate uptake of electric vehicles (EVs) and associated EV infrastructure; and encourage market growth of EVs and infrastructure.
Summer 2019 internship projects will include:
Advocating for Low Carbon Fuel Standards, supporting strong passenger vehicle and truck fuel economy standards, and promoting low- to zero-emission vehicles;
Supporting the development and maintenance of EV market tracking systems and assisting with preparation for corporate engagements on transportation electrification;
Performing research on various transportation issues, drafting supporting resources and performing some administrative tasks.

Working with members of Ceres' Climate & Energy and Investor Network teams, this intern will help advance our work by:
Conducting research on company and investor actions, energy sector trends, drafting educational materials for Ceres Investor Network members (both quantitative and qualitative), and
Providing some administrative support.
The ideal candidate will be interested in climate and energy topics and have a focus in one or more of the following areas: financial markets, financial research, corporate strategic planning, risk management, communications, and/or Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) investment stewardship. Relevant experience may also qualify. We are looking for candidates with solid research skills, an ability to work independently, and some familiarity with how climate issues apply to businesses and investors.
Advocating for Low Carbon Fuel Standards, supporting strong passenger vehicle and truck fuel economy standards, and promoting low- to zero-emission vehicles;
Supporting the development and maintenance of EV market tracking systems and assisting with preparation for corporate engagements on transportation electrification;
Performing research on various transportation issues, drafting supporting resources and performing some administrative tasks.
Please refer to the Ceres Transportation Initiative page for additional information. Graduate students preferred, but all will be considered.
