(WEST), a dynamic, medium-sized consulting firm with offices across the United States, is looking for a part-time, temp Biological Field Technician in Denver, Colorado (fieldwork is actually in Springfield, Colorado). WEST has a permanent core of professionals with broad experience in basic and applied ecological studies and the sophisticated analysis of natural resource data.
The successful candidate will be an independent self-motivated individual who is skilled in bird identification and has previous experience conducting avian use surveys at pre & post-construction sites. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in various (extreme) weather conditions and terrains and have a passion for the outdoors.
Conduct avian use surveys and other seasonal wildlife surveys at pre-construction projects• Conduct standardized avian-use surveys; data collection will include use of detailed paper datasheets
Field work will entail long hours of standing and observing, sometimes in inclement conditions and walking in varying terrain This a general description of the functions for this position and is not inclusive of all the duties which may be associated with this position
Start Date: 06/01/2019
Hours: Approximately 25-30 hrs/week
Project Length : 12 months (with possible extension)
Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Resources, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, or an equivalent degree preferred
Must be able to identify birds by sight and sound for species in the region; candidates experienced in bird identification will be given preference• Previous experience on biological field studies and/or prior field experience preferred
Skilled use of topographic maps, compass, GPS units, and other field equipment is required• Applicants must be in good physical shape, as surveys will be conducted in locations where temperatures and conditions can be extreme
Must be able to maintain equipment• must be able to work independently and interact professionally and respectfully with project managers, clients, landowners, and other technicians• Technician must be equipped with and provide own suitable footwear (rugged hiking boots, etc.), clothing, and binoculars
Follow all WEST safety protocols Successful candidates must be able to pass a background check; a pre-employment drug screen; and a DMV records check that meets WEST’s minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver’s license will be required. Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements. The Wildlife Route Specialist interacts with their District Manager, teammates, and our call center to service and grow an existing route including commercial and residential customers.
The Successful Candidate Will…
Complete our award-winning training and learn the skills required to be responsible for the daily operations of a wildlife removal technician
Follow a service schedule within an assigned territory, ensuring safe and timely arrival at each customer’s location
Communicate (verbal and written) with customers to ensure a high degree of customer service and satisfaction
Serve as a problem solver for our customers by utilizing the in-depth training provided to decide on the most efficient and best overall solution for each customer's needs
Provide high quality and productive service in a timely manner that meets or exceeds our customer promise
Complete all required service-related documentation and leverage the hand held device provided for speed and accuracy

Candidates must be physically capable of safely performing the following job duties:
Safely use a ladder within the manufacturer's guidelines
Lift and carry up to 75 lbs
Safely access crawl spaces, attics, confined spaces, roof tops, etc.;
Work outdoors in various weather conditions
High School Diploma required; four year degree preferred e.g., wildlife management, agriculture, biology, environmental and animal sciences, entomology, herpetology, forestry, business, marketing, range management or sales
Military or job related experience is also accepted, e.g., wildlife and/or forestry, sales, estimation, customer service, contracts, collections, processing transactions, field service, environmental services/sanitation, animal exclusion solutions, construction/repairs, etc.
We require a good driving record and the ability to pass a drug screen
Hired candidates must reside or relocate within a 30 minute drive of their territory. Acceptable distance/mileage may vary across densely populated areas.
