Learn more Summary About the Position: This position is located at the Bonneville Lock and Dam Project, 145 river miles from the mouth of the Columbia River and about 40 miles east of Portland, Oregon, near Cascade Locks, Ore., and North Bonneville, Washington. Term (Modified Term) positions may be extended up to a total of eight years. Term (Modified Term) positions may be converted to permanent at a later date. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Work will be focused on predator-prey interactions. Pacific lamprey trap and haul duties include safely handling live adult lamprey, scanning for PIT tags, collecting morphometric data, and driving a full-sized truck to and from the worksite. Perform routine inspection of lamprey specific fishways while collecting environmental data associated with fish passage and data from video archives of fish passage. Download counter data, test counters, record water depth and temperature, catalog dead lamprey and record data, and record data pertaining to the mortalities. Perform monitoring and abundance estimates of avian predators including colony counts, assessment, and dissuasion installation. Sea lion monitoring duties include collecting field data on surface observations of marine mammal predation on adult salmonids and other fish using established monitoring techniques and equipment. This position requires standing and walking for up to eight hours a day as well as video review for up to five hours a day. Outside elements: you will be expected to conduct fieldwork independently in harsh weather conditions such as below freezing temperatures, snow, cold and rain, or sunny conditions above 100 F. Duties require standing and walking on concrete throughout some shifts. Must be able to use the Microsoft Office suite of programs including Excel and Access for data entry and analysis in support of annual reports.
