BLM is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join the seasonal team to serve as an Biological Science Technician (Wildlife) for the Western Montana/Dakotas District Office in Dillon, Montana. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Biological Science Technician (Wildlife) duties include but are not limited to: participates in monitoring of sage grouse habitat using the Habitat Assessment Framework (HAF) methodology. Also, may participate in inventories of wildlife and habitats. Collects data on wildlife number, species, sex, movement range, and habitat forage, water and cover. As team member or lead participates in habitat improvement projects such as weed control, seeding, and conifer lopping. Participates in wildlife project maintenance including guzzlers, marking fences, and modifying and removing fences. Participates in or leads bird surveys including sage grouse lek counts, migratory songbird surveys, and raptor nest inventories and surveys. Compiles and organizes survey data in current files and other sources, prepares narratives, and reports on and overlays of areas inventoried. Enters and retrieves data from automated databases. Physical Demands/Work Environment: Work performed in an office environment is adequately lighted and ventilated. Much of the time is spent in the field requiring a considerable amount of walking, riding, stooping, bending and lifting with exposure to extremes of heat and cold, rough terrain, insects, wildlife, and other hazards are common.
