Description Imported Water Unit (Position Code 0624)   Overview: Are you interested in working at the intersection of science and policy? Do you enjoy working in a team environment? Valley Water is looking for a highly-motivated individual to join its imported water team to work on Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay-Delta issues. This position will provide support to the Senior Water Resources Specialist in the Imported Water Unit specializing on science, adaptive management, fisheries and habitat restoration issues and the intersection of these technical issues with policy as it relates to securing reliable imported water supplies for Valley Water. This position will also provide support on long term water supply projects, such as Delta Conveyance Facility and new storage projects, as well as provide support on annual operations, including development of transfer and exchange agreements, as needed. This position will ideally develop a knowledge base to provide long term expertise on Bay Delta Issues. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to : Provide technical support to Senior Water Resources Specialist on Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay-Delta science, adaptive management, fisheries and habitat restoration issues, including reviewing and commenting on documents, preparing memos and analyses, and attending conferences and meetings. Provide technical support to senior staff on long term water supply projects, including reviewing and commenting on documents, performing technical analyses, and attending meetings. Conduct studies, investigations, and analyses, such as scientific syntheses, water supply planning, numerical modeling and other technical analyses. Analyze proposed and current legislation and government policies, rules, standards, and regulations and develop recommendations; serve on various technical advisory committees; review environmental and regulatory reports. Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of and interpret new scientific studies, laws, regulations, and innovations in the related field of fisheries, ecosystem, and restoration science and/or water resources, and their impact on Valley Water; develop and recommend management strategies. Provide support to senior staff on development of water supply management agreements to support annual operations. Develop and review staff reports related to Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay-Delta science matters, water resources projects and programs; present to various commissions, committees, and boards; may present information to the Board of Directors. Ideal Candidate's Background Includes: Applicants whose experience and background best match the ideal experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and education are considered ideal candidates for the position. Overview / Responsibilities Wood is currently seeking  Environmental Compliance Inspectors  to join our team in Puget Sound.   The ideal candidate will have technical expertise leading environmental permitting and compliance, with specific knowledge and expertise in state and local regulations in Washington State, with an emphasis on state highway construction projects.   Key Responsibilities : Independently prepare, plan, conduct, document, and report results of scientific studies of aquatic and terrestrial systems, wetlands, plants, and animal communities in compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations Identify and evaluate environmental effects of highway features, construction methods, and operating procedures of transportation facilities Work with WSDOT project teams to recommend strategies for avoiding and minimizing impacts to protected habitats and species Develop and review scope, schedule and budget for assigned deliverables Complete NEPA/SEPA environmental review and permitting, which may include completing or facilitating the completion of environmental analysis and documentation required to complete environmental review, and permitting Review project design plans and contracts for consistency with environmental permit conditions and environmental commitments Perform fieldwork in support of project construction and post-construction, as needed Assist construction offices with regulatory and environmental compliance problem-solving and provide environmental technical assistance Attend meetings, trainings, and conferences as needed for professional development and coordinates with other environmental professionals within WSDOT for continued professional development Skills / Qualifications Role Requirements : A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental science, biology, ecology, natural or physical sciences, water quality/toxicology, environmental planning, environmental engineering, or closely related field, and at least three (3) years professional experience conducting biological field studies, analysis, and writing biological reports to support NEPA, SEPA, ESA, and Clean Water Act environmental review and permitting related to transportation projects or a closely related field A Master’s degree in one of the above fields and at least two (2) years of experience as described above One year of professional work experience as described above as a Transportation Planning Specialist 2, or equivalent classification in city or county agencies, and equivalent education in one of the major studies outlined above Willingness to be seconded at a client site for up to 40 hours/week In addition to one of the above, candidates are also required to have : Working knowledge of NEPA/SEPA and environmental permitting processes and federal, state, and local environmental regulations Working knowledge of wetlands, wildlife and fisheries technical issues, and how they relate to the work WSDOT performs and other development projects Ability to research and interpret environmental regulations and permit requirements as they pertain to WSDOT construction activity Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications Excellent communication and problem-solving skills in a collaborative environment Remember to say you found this opportunity at EnvironmentalCareer.com !
