The Delaware Riverkeeper Network (DRN) has an immediate opening for a seasoned litigator/attorney in its Bristol, Pennsylvania office. The Senior Attorney will carry their own case load, oversee legal interns, and help provide oversight to the junior attorney on staff. The Senior Attorney will be expected to work independently as well as in collaboration with other senior DRN advocacy and legal staff.
DRN works to protect the Delaware River watershed and ecosystems from threats such as shale gas extraction, pipeline and powerline construction, dredging, stormwater runoff, wetlands degradation, species take and pollution. DRN’s legal team consists of a senior outside counsel, two full-time staff attorneys, a junior support attorney/paralegal, and a law clinic. The two senior attorneys on staff report to Ms. van Rossum, who is the Delaware Riverkeeper, leader of DRN and also an attorney.
Responsibilities:
Develop and pursue litigation in state and federal courts and administrative tribunals to advance the organization’s strategic objectives.
Manage relationships with co-counsel, outside counsel, clients, and coalition partners.
Co-direct the River Resources Environmental Law Clinic each academic semester including providing hands on training to law interns working with DRN for school credit, and providing legal instruction as needed.
Supervising and mentoring staff attorneys and legal interns
Qualifications:
Applicants must be law school graduates who are admitted, or are willing to apply for admission, to at least one of the state bars of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, or Delaware.
The ideal applicant will have:
3 to 7 years of environmental litigation experience working with the Clean Water Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Natural Gas Act, the Endangered Species Act, and/or other relevant federal and state environmental statutes.
Experience in administrative and judicial proceedings and experience in undertaking factual investigations.
Superb research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
The ability to mentor and oversee more junior staff and interns.

Develop relationships with regional, state, and federal agencies and engage in advocacy to promote priorities of clean air and zero-emissions.
Prepare advocacy materials such as fact sheets, letters, action alerts, blogs, and other educational materials.
Work with our communications team on media outreach efforts.
Provide support for client coalitions by participating in committee groups, attending conferences, and tracking political and regulatory developments.

Conduct factual research to support all stages of litigation.
Draft case-related documents, including factual portions of pleadings, client and expert declarations, and formal requests to agencies for public records.
Review and interpret regulations, environmental planning documents, technical support documents and other factual and technical information to support legal strategies.
Produce multi-media materials (including GIS mapping) for case development and litigation.
Proofread pleadings.
Supervise projects and other efforts performed on assigned issues by litigation assistants, contractors or others.
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least two years of professional experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Applied Sciences, Public Health, Urban Planning, Environmental Sciences, or Engineering, with Master’s preferred.
Excellent research, writing, analytical and communication skills, including the ability to quickly understand complex scientific issues and communicate this knowledge to attorneys, staff and media.
Experience with scientific or technical issues related to land use, the electric sector, climate, energy, clean air policy and/or environmental justice issues preferred, but not required.

BEPPS2 is a design evolution of existing two vault fully enclosed and shielded ILW stores with an EOT crane servicing each vault.
Previous designs were undertaken in the mid-2000s and BEPPS2 Project Team have identified that there have been significant changes to design codes, nuclear and environmental regulations and application of BIM, CDM and Sustainability.
Role Description
Leadership and support relating to project development and general environmental management work; assisting projects to meet legal and company requirements and to drive improved environmental performance. Promoting best environmental practice, improved business management of environmentally related issues and demonstration of sustainability.
Skills / Qualifications
Provision of environmental management guidance, support, challenge and working collaboratively with the project team to produce environmental deliverables.
Identify the scope of environmental deliverables and workstreams, and help incorporate them into an overall project schedule/ programme of work.
Manage delivery of the environmental work packages required across the project lifecycle.
Facilitate acquisition of resources to ensure all environmental deliverables are completed to time, quality and cost.
Provide technical advice to project/ study teams on regulatory compliance and other environmental subjects.
Lead discussions with Regulators, and potentially other interested external stakeholders on environmental matters.
Manage environmental assurance within the project/ study, including assurance reviews and delivery of environmental audits, for example, of the construction site(s); with additional themed audits as considered appropriate.
Act as the single point of contact for the project for compiling internal and external environmental approvals/ consents/ permits.
Support sitewide/ programme/project initiatives as required, for example, input into the annual Sellafield Ltd environmental permit reviews.
Draw on, and share relevant Learning From Experience (LFE).
Develop and deliver a programme to enhance the environmental culture and the environmental awareness within the project/ study.

Scope: The Legal Assistant provides administrative support and litigation support to advance the mission of the Environmental Law Program and Sierra Club campaigns, and helps to manage programmatic aspects of ELP.

Collaborates with attorneys, paralegals, and other ELP staff to complete the critical, precise tasks of litigation, including editing, formatting and otherwise preparing legal documents, communicating with court clerks, and filing and serving documents properly and on time. Provides day-to-day coordination of dockets and acts as liaison between ELP and outside groups.
Interviews potential standing declarants and drafts standing declarations under the supervision of attorneys.

Performs basic research tasks via legal and technical databases (Lexis, Westlaw, SNL, etc.). Provides administrative support for the litigation coordination program "new matter form" process, including document preparation, copying, filing, faxing, and mailing.

Monitors and reports all relevant public information regarding permitting, public notices, and media relating to current and potential legal actions relating to coal plants and other priority targets of Sierra Club campaigns.
Conducts miscellaneous research and prepares reports in support of Sierra Club campaigns.
Tracks and records the status of litigation, rulemakings, etc. to enable access to legal and technical resources by the network of attorneys and allied organizations collaborating on Sierra Club campaigns.

The person in this position will work on projects related to water supply evaluation, remediation of contaminated groundwater, mine planning and development, and groundwater-surface-water interaction. Barr is seeking a hydrogeologist intern for the summer of 2020. The person in this position will work on projects related to water supply evaluation, remediation of contaminated groundwater, mine planning and development, and groundwater-surface-water interaction. Working as an individual or as part of a project team, this person may assist with: aquifer test performance and analysis; numerical modeling of groundwater flow and fate and transport; onsite investigations of contaminated soil, groundwater, sediment, and soil gas, including oversight of monitoring well installation and sample collection; and preparation of drilling logs, cross-sections, geologic maps, and technical reports. Fieldwork may require some out-of-town travel.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering obtained by May 2020 with a minimum of one full-time semester of graduate course work remaining after the internship
Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
Thesis, coursework, or previous work experience directly related to groundwater flow and/or fate and transport modeling using finite-difference or finite-element methods
Willingness to complete field investigation tasks including overseeing well installation; planning, conducting, and analyzing results of aquifer tests; and collecting soil and groundwater samples
Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, ability to write well, and attention to detail
A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs (up to 25-30% travel and fieldwork expected; project needs will vary)

Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in quantitative methods and analytical approaches to address sustainability challenges, such as engineering, physical sciences, environmental sciences, economics or other fields. Candidates must have a strong record of scholarly publication, evidence of teaching potential in a multidisciplinary setting, and a demonstrated potential for and/or trajectory towards national and international recognition. Importantly, we are seeking candidates who have an interest in using their research to help solve real-world sustainability challenges. Therefore, candidates should have some evidence of engaging stakeholders in their work, and evidence of collaboration across disciplinary boundaries to develop solutions to sustainability challenges in areas such as climate, energy, water, food, built environment, and mobility.
