About the opportunity Do you thrive in the pursuit of ensuring excellence in environmental consulting services? SWCA Environmental Consultants is expanding their team and looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in delivering the highest-quality project work. Our Portland, Oregon office is looking for a mid-level wetland and permitting specialist. Your role will be to lead and assist senior-level staff with wetland delineations, permitting efforts, and other natural resource tasks as a task lead or project manager on a variety of projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. What you will accomplish Conducting all aspects of wetland projects including: wetland and waters determination, delineation, reporting, functional assessment, permitting, mitigation planning and design, and monitoring Preparing written documents, including wetland and waters determination and delineation reports Preparing wetland removal/fill permit applications Coordinating agency review of wetland permit applications Assisting with proposal preparation Field data collection and report writing for natural resource assessments Natural Resource Site Assessment of Vegetated Corridors under Clean Water Services and Water Environment Services regulations Preparing resource assessments under local natural resource overlay district ordinances Experience and qualifications for success A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or closely related field A minimum of five (5-7) years of progressively responsible experience in fieldwork and report preparation in consulting or similar work environment Experience managing projects Working knowledge of Clean Water Act Section 404 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regulation program, Oregon Department of State Lands Removal/Fill Law, and/or Washington’s Joint Aquatic Resource Permit Application (JARPA) process Working knowledge of the Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual and the Western Mountains, Valleys, and Coast Regional Supplement and/or Arid West Regional Supplement Pacific Northwest botany skills Experience in coloring and texturing soils in the field Familiarity with documentation of wetland hydrology indicators Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification obtained through the Society of Wetland Scientist’s Professional Certification Program strongly preferred; willingness to become certified is required GPS and GIS skills a plus Excellent oral, written and problem-solving skills Ability to travel as needed for projects throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska including overnight travel for up to one week at a time on a regular basis SWCA Environmental Consultants is a growing employee-owned firm, providing a full spectrum of environmental services.
