Policy Leadership Lead primary Policy Team activities include developing, maintaining, and updating greenhouse gas reduction methodologies, including carbon offset protocols across North America and ex ante methodologies under the Reserve’s Climate Forward program; assisting the Program Team with protocol and methodology implementation and application; and, in conjunction with the Programs team, formulating and refining Reserve program rules and policies. The Vice President for Policy is responsible for managing Policy Team staff.
Promoting Market-Oriented Climate Policy Development Together with the President, the Vice President for Policy will help lead the Reserve’s efforts to engage with policymakers and other external stakeholders to further the Reserve’s mission of promoting greenhouse gas emission reductions through credible market-based policies and solutions.
Strategic Initiatives With the President and senior management team, the Vice President for Policy actively contributes to the development and implementation of the Reserve’s mission, goals, and strategic planning efforts, as well as fundraising activities. We conduct research and field deployments to demonstrate a safe, effective and cost-efficient method to restore Arctic ice, informed by climate modeling and on-the-ground measurement. The Ideal Candidate for Executive Director:
You are a strategic and inspirational leader who will provide direction and leadership for the organization’s mission, vision and development. Senegal is experiencing widespread environmental deterioration that significantly impacts people’s welfare and undermines the opportunities of future generations. Senegal’s current land use system contributes to deforestation and a drastic decline in soil fertility and water quality. In addition, the effects of climate change such as rising temperatures and sea level strongly impact agricultural production. With well over a third of the population living below the poverty line, Senegal, like many of its regional neighbors, is affected by high rates of food insecurity, health vulnerability and gender inequality. To address these constraints and ensure better food security, intervention at the grass-roots level is necessary to improve communities’ management of natural resources and the environment. Adults and youth need to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for the preservation of the environment, and the intensification and diversification of agricultural production. The goal of the Peace Corps Senegal Agroforestry Project is to help individuals and communities to improve the management of natural resources and the environment, ensuring food security in a healthier environment. To this effect, Volunteers will work to: • Increase the knowledge and appreciation of environmental issues in youth and adults. • Increase the capacity of communities to plant and care for trees in order to increase access to nutritious foods, generate income, and restore and protect land. • Increase the capacity of communities to manage natural resources and the environment in sustainable, healthy, and productive ways. Scope: The Presidential Battleground States Program Director has program responsibility and works with senior staff to execute the following job activities:
Job Activities:
Directs the Club's efforts on the independent Presidential Battleground States Program, including the development of strategies, allocation of resources, and hiring and supervision of program staff.
Works with National Political Director, SCPT Committee, other Sierra Club’s departments, and consultants to formulate strategies and implement the program.
Develops and oversees $5M program budget, fundraising strategies, materials, and outreach.
Ensures our mobilization effort and targeting is informed by data analysis and motoring progress and impact.

Scope: The Deputy Director manages chapter staff and chapter staff-related activities as delegated by the Chapter Director and serves as acting director in the absence of the Director. The Deputy Director, under the direction of the Director, works with chapter volunteers to develop and implement the major programs of the Chapter.

Job Activities:
Management
Manages staff in assigned operational or program areas. Writes and conducts performance appraisals and takes personnel actions as appropriate. Ensures Chapter is in compliance with Sierra Club’s employment policies and practices.

Captures and tracks the Chapter's priorities, policies, objectives, and goals. Communicates the goals and progress to volunteers and staff.
Designs and develops information systems to monitor the effectiveness of programs, as well as the status of the budget, and reporting to staff and volunteer leaders.
Campaigning
Provides leadership and direction in the development of key partnerships within each campaign.

Scope: The Deputy Director manages chapter staff and chapter staff-related activities as delegated by the Chapter Director and serves as acting director in the absence of the Director. The Deputy Director, under the direction of the Director, works with chapter volunteers to develop and implement the major programs of the Chapter.
This individual will support the development of the Chapter’s conservation and organizational goals, and oversee the staff implementation of those goals.

Job Activities:
Management
Manages staff in assigned operational or program areas. Writes and conducts performance appraisals and takes personnel actions as appropriate. Ensures Chapter is in compliance with Sierra Club’s employment policies and practices.
Supervises, directs, develops and provides general and technical guidance to staff which includes assigning work and establishing standards and work priorities; meeting individual goals; resolving business and technical issues; guiding and coaching staff for individual professional development; establishing performance objectives and expectations and providing ongoing performance feedback, preparing and conducting formal performance planning and evaluation; effectively recommending salary, hiring and promotion decisions. Takes appropriate disciplinary action when needed.
Works with Chapter Director to recruit, hire, and manage paid staff to carry out the objectives of the Chapter.
Conservation Goals: Planning and Tracking
Work with volunteer leadership to ensure Chapter has SMART annual and multi-year goals and strategic plans.
Responsible for coordinating Chapter staff, national counterparts and Chapter volunteer leaders in development of annual plans and annual goals and will serve as a member of the Chapter’s Annual Planning and Budget team.
Captures and tracks the Chapter's priorities, policies, objectives, and goals. Communicates the goals and progress to volunteers and staff.
Designs and develops information systems to monitor the effectiveness of programs, as well as the status of the budget, and reporting to staff and volunteer leaders.
Campaigning
Provides leadership and direction in the development of key partnerships within each campaign.
As needed, this staff person will support campaign organizing efforts related to the Chapter’s conservation work.
Works with staff and lead volunteers to plan, develop and implement chapter conservation campaigns and to design and oversee grassroots recruitment and involvement in conservation programs.
Ensures that the message of the Club is accurately represented by the media by working closely with staff and volunteer leaders.
Works on task forces, committees, etc. representing the Club’s mission, positions and objectives.
Attends and facilitates meetings, task forces, and events. Builds strong relationships with other groups, elected officials, governmental agencies, etc. Represents the Chapter as appropriate.
Knowledge and Skills:
B.A./B.S. degree in Environmental Studies, Political Science or a closely related field.
3 or more years experience working within the fields of advocacy, organizing or politics, with experience with managing staff and campaigns.
Substantial experience and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with volunteers.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Skills running strategic planning with diversity of voices and perspectives.
Strong analytical skills. Proficient computer skills.
