P osition Description
The Associate, Food and Forests position plays a key support role for Ceres’ Food and Forests Program. We are looking for candidates with strong organizational skills, an interest in sustainable food systems and some understanding of responsible investment and the larger investment community. The team is hiring a new colleague to support research, knowledge building and investor-led engagements on corporate deforestation-related risks. This full-time position is based in Boston, MA, and reports to a Senior Manager on the Food and Forests Program. Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
As directed by the Senior Manager, Food and Forests Program, support engagements with investors on their work to address deforestation-related risks in their portfolios.
Maintain and regularly update all data sets and Salesforce tracking systems to ensure contacts, meetings, deliverables, and other important information is tracked and available.
Track and monitor material deforestation and food-related news flow for internal and external use.
Research and benchmark corporate no-deforestation public commitments.
Using Partner Engagement Management System (PEMS), coordinate outreach to members by other Ceres’ staff members, including sign-on letters, meeting requests, events, etc.
Manage, review, and update content and promote investor activity on the Investor Portal
Assist in white paper, report and presentation preparation for internal and external audiences.
With the Senior Manager, Investor Engagement, coordinate planning of conference sessions, webinars and presentations.
Participate in Food and Forests and relevant cross-team meetings, quarterly and annual program reviews, and annual planning meetings.
Provide administrative and programmatic support for the Investor Initiative for Sustainable Forests collaboration
Requirements
Two to three years of work experience, in an office setting.
One or more years of experience in a relevant field.
Demonstrated interest in climate change, environmental and/or sustainability issue
An understanding of financial markets and investment firms, financial institutions, or institutional investors.
Strong writing and research skills.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
Excellent organizational abilities; demonstrated capacity to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, set priorities, meet deadlines, take precise notes, and work well in a fast-paced environment.

Position Description
The Development Assistant will work with the Director of Development, California (DOD West), primarily focusing on individual giving and development events, and s/he also will be part of a 10-person development team in Boston. The Development Assistant will report to the DOD West and provide administrative support to this position. Service Description : Green Iowa AmeriCorps operates through the University of Northern Iowa’s Center for Energy and Environmental Education (UNI CEEE) in Cedar Falls. The program looking to recruit passionate and motivated individuals for a six-month service experience, beginning February 2020, in one of our service locations throughout Iowa. As a member of our new and existing programs sites, you will have the opportunity to create plans in conjunction with city officials, nonprofit leaders, school districts, and execute projects that will greatly impact the communities we serve. Our program hopes to train the next generation of ‘green-collar’ workers through a combination of field trips, presentations, and hands-on learning. Service Description : Green Iowa AmeriCorps operates through the University of Northern Iowa’s Center for Energy and Environmental Education (UNI CEEE) in Cedar Falls. The program looking to recruit passionate and motivated individuals for a six-month service experience, beginning February 2020, in one of our service locations throughout Iowa. As a member of our new and existing programs sites, you will have the opportunity to create plans in conjunction with city officials, nonprofit leaders, school districts, and execute projects that will greatly impact the communities we serve. The leadership and empowerment experienced as part of our program will be like no other!
Our program hopes to train the next generation of ‘green-collar’ workers through a combination of field trips, presentations, and hands-on learning. Members have the opportunity to build leadership abilities through specific coordinator roles, which allow each member to contribute unique skills to the program. Members have access to free trainings, hands-on skill development, and extensive community engagement.
Our mission is empowering Iowa's communities and school districts to make more environmental, conservation-minded decisions and improvements through direct service work, environmental education, professional development opportunities and volunteer engagement. Green Iowa AmeriCorps consists of three branches: Energy & Community, Sustainable Schools and Land & Water Stewards. Each branch of our program will provide AmeriCorps members with the unique opportunity to enhance their professional development goals, cultivate community-wide relationships, and work toward making Iowa a more sustainable, eco-nomic state.

Develop relationships with regional, state, and federal agencies and engage in advocacy to promote priorities of clean air and zero-emissions.
Prepare advocacy materials such as fact sheets, letters, action alerts, blogs, and other educational materials.
Work with our communications team on media outreach efforts.
Provide support for client coalitions by participating in committee groups, attending conferences, and tracking political and regulatory developments.

Litigation Support (40 percent)
Conduct preliminary case inquiries and investigate potential new cases, including preparing factual research, analysis and organization of relevant information, and a written report.
Conduct factual research to support all stages of litigation.
Draft case-related documents, including factual portions of pleadings, client and expert declarations, and formal requests to agencies for public records.
Review and interpret regulations, environmental planning documents, technical support documents and other factual and technical information to support legal strategies.
Produce multi-media materials (including GIS mapping) for case development and litigation.
Proofread pleadings.
Supervise projects and other efforts performed on assigned issues by litigation assistants, contractors or others.
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least two years of professional experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Applied Sciences, Public Health, Urban Planning, Environmental Sciences, or Engineering, with Master’s preferred.

This is a full-time position, based in Boston, MA, that will report to the Water Program Director and partners with a number of program teams at Ceres.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Overall responsibility for success of this initiative, including strategy development, execution and fundraising.
Develop and oversee strategies for mobilizing investors to engage companies in high water impact sectors, with an initial focus on the food and agriculture sector.
Engage directly with food sector companies, including Ceres Company Network members, on opportunities for improving their management of water risk.
Manage the production, release and distribution of research reports and related blog posts and articles.
Supervise and mentor staff that contribute to this initiative, including current full-time staff and relevant consultants and interns.
Serve as an internal resource and external spokesperson for Ceres’ water and agriculture related work, representing Ceres as a speaker at conferences and events, on webinars and dialogue meetings with companies, investors and stakeholders.
Work in partnership with the Water Program Director and the Development team to draft and edit fundraising proposals and reports and to manage relationships with current and prospective funders.
Manage the budget for this initiative and oversee all expenditures.
Work across Ceres teams, with a particular focus on the Food & Forests, Investor Network, and Company Network programs, as well as non-programmatic teams.
Manage planning related to this initiative for the Ceres annual conference program and other events to educate stakeholders on water.
Support the implementation and development of program management systems including developing goals, tracking KPIs and evaluating the results and progress of the program.
Assure that programmatic strategies maximize the impacts of our work through a lens of social and racial equity.
Qualifications
Minimum of seven years of work experience.
Substantial experience working with or within private sector institutions on environmental sustainability/sustainable agriculture.
Substantial expertise on environmental sustainability issues, with a preference for expertise in freshwater sustainability, soil health and sustainable agriculture.
An understanding of the following entities; corporations, large-scale agricultural operations, investment firms, financial institutions, or institutional investors.
Strong writing and research skills.
Effective presentation style and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
Experience managing within budgets and making trade-off decisions.
Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, strong initiative and motivation.
Experience cultivating effective supervisory relationships (across gender identify, race ethnicity, and socio-economic background) with direct reports.
Desire to work in a not-for-profit, advocacy-focused organization.
Willingness to travel as needed to accomplish duties noted above.
Proficient with word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, and e-mail computer applications.
