In the role of Environmental Project Manager you’ll be responsible for managing projects and building strong relationships with regulatory agencies as well as some of HDR’s most unique clients in the Industrial, Renewables and Power markets. As a focused, goal-minded individual and a natural connector of people, you’ll interface with clients to understand their priorities and challenges with the objective of engaging the right environmental professionals to provide solutions. This requires an ability to listen, develop unique strategies, and identify team synergies concentrated on solving the challenges facing our clients. The primary focus of this role is to interface with clients to develop relationships and capture work to support and grow an environmental team. Performing both marketing and project manager duties, much of your time will also be spent on executing the work you win and creating repeat business from clients. Primary Role & Responsibilities: This position drives client development activities and provides focus and leadership for HDR’s environmental services to Industrial, Renewables, and Power clients in the Missouri/Kansas Area. This includes partnering with local and national staff resources, being active in industry organizations, supporting project pursuits, determining project staffing and execution needs. Serves as a project manager, task lead, or team member on projects to achieve a utilization goal. As a PM, effectively manages projects, communicates with team members, and delivers project profit. Leads environmental client development efforts, communications and proposal development with business, operations, marketing and project staff to maximize client satisfaction and support local growth, and profitability. Works with marketing staff on pursuits. Engages with operations and HDR Client Development Leaders to build marketing capabilities through recruitment and staff training. Collaborates with local leadership on key hires and investments. Coordinates marketing activities with HDR Market Sector Client Development Leaders and practice leaders. Marketing coordinators assigned to the environmental section assist with marketing efforts department-wide. Develops strong client relationships and serves as a client manager for select clients. Supports client development planning. Implements company marketing policies and procedures, standards, quality assurance and risk management within the Area. Monitors new market trends and participates in development and implementation of Area strategic and tactical planning. Supports capturing client feedback and problem resolution; organizes and participates in client functions within the Area. Participates in business and community activities as representative of HDR and encourages others in the environmental group to do the same. Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or environmental engineering or related field. 7+ years of experience in providing a range of environmental review, agency coordination, and permitting support for Industrial and linear Power projects including project management, proposal preparation, and developing relationships with clients. Work on wide variety of environmental planning, environmental compliance, natural resources projects. Work on environmental assessments/impact analysis and associated permitting and compliance monitoring for infrastructure projects that require conformance with Federal/State/City Environmental Reviews. Develop environmental permits, biological assessments, and NEPA, MEPA, CEPA, SEQRA and similar study documents. Research and interpret scientific literature, regulatory programs, guidance and applications. Collect project-related data, which may include research, conducting surveys for listed species, interviews with government agencies and clients, map reviews, field investigations for wetlands, natural resources, land use, etc. Prepare for and participate in public information meetings and hearings Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Proven ability to develop and maintain clients in consulting industry with a focus on one or more of the following markets: Industrial, Renewables and Power. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to be proactive and think on your feet. Must be willing to travel (up to 25% time) within the Area and regionally to support client development and to attend industry conferences and events. Depending on the candidate, this position may provide staff augmentation services to key clients. Assignments would be within driving distance and ideally would not require overnight stay. Work cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, department, technical managers and project staff. Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values. Preferred Qualifications: Preference given to candidates local to St. Louis, Missouri; experience in Missouri, Kansas, and Southern Illinois is strongly preferred. Existing network of clients in the Missouri/Kansas Market and the Upper Midwest. Experience permitting linear infrastructure. Degree or experience in marketing or business development.
