ERM is seeking an experienced Environmental Impact Assessment Principal Consultant with consulting experience and established client relationships, to play a key role in growing our business in Charlotte, North Carolina office. As a senior leader, you will be fully accountable for successfully selling and consulting on a range of environmental, social, and health impact assessment projects to build a sustainable business locally, while networking with ERM's global technical team to share best practices across the industry. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement strategic business/action plan, provide leadership, and deliver performance results to expand Impact Assessment & Planning (IAP) service area and client base in Charlotte, North Carolina. Serve as a key member of the “core” technical team to drive double-digit profitable growth across the IAP service lines (environmental impact assessment, land planning, facility siting & permitting, risk assessment and water resources management).
As a “seller/doer,” contribute to business development of ERM’s global IAP service area. Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take active leadership role in developing new business with new and existing clients. Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business.
Serve as Senior Technical Director for NEPA environmental assessment (EA) and environmental impact statement (EIS) projects and related activities in support of ERM clients’ capital projects (i.e., oil and gas, mining, power generation, electrical transmission, renewable energy projects). Contribute to preparing EAs/EISs and associated management plans in compliance with NEPA, serving in roles ranging from lead technical expert to QA/QC. Achieve client’s expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
Lead, manage performance, hire and retain, inspire and mentor personnel for overall success of technical team.
Capitalize on existing ERM client relationships to expand ERM’s profile and market share in the IAP market (through a combination of excellence in technical delivery and business development). Work with other ERM resources to deepen relationships with ERM key clients and establish new client relationships that result in significant net revenue growth.
Support the general growth and development of ERM’s international IAP technical community. Collaborate with other ERM global practitioners to execute impact assessment projects. Participate on teams comprised of impact assessment professionals from multiple offices around the global ERM organization.
REQUIREMENTS:
BS/MS in environmental studies, planning, geography, civil or environmental engineering or related field; PE, CEP, AICP or similar registration desired.
15+ years of consulting experience with impact assessment and multi-media permitting.
Proven track record in developing and implementing successful business growth strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure students and staff are properly managing risks associated with paddling whitewater.
Deliver quality whitewater instruction to NCOBS’ staff and students.
Ensure paddling programs adhere to National and NCOBS risk management policies, risk management procedures, local operating procedures, and directives from WPM.
Assist in logistical support of river programs.
Working Conditions:
Must be able to lift 75 pounds and participate in vigorous physical activity including but not limited to paddling and camping in the field.
Irregular work hours as necessary.
Qualifications:
Interest in making a positive difference in the lives of people, both students, and co-workers.
Passion for teaching whitewater paddling.
Can work well on a team with other professional outdoor educators and at the same time be able to operate on one's own when appropriate
Current WFR and CPR certifications.
American Canoe Association Level 4 Canoe Instructor certification or equivalent experience.
Swiftwater Rescue Training and demonstrable skills.
Ability to make sound judgment calls on and off the water with their groups and co-workers.
Strong awareness of risk management and mature respect for the dynamic nature of water-based programs.
Experience leading groups engaged in whitewater paddling.
Demonstrate the following skills to the NCOBS WPM, or designee:
A personal skill base that allows the individual to comfortably facilitate the students’ experience and perform boat-based rescues from a tandem and solo open canoe in up to class III whitewater.
Ability to effectively present the components and skills necessary to facilitate and manage the risks of a standard NCOBS’ three to five day tandem canoe progression.
Understanding of river hydrology and whitewater river hazards how to manage them.
Ability to swim effectively in class III whitewater.
Cleared background screening and ability to drive NCOBS vehicles and trailers.
Compensation and Benefits:
Pay is per diem and based upon the NCOBS field staff pay scale.
Housing stipend of $180 / month to be provided June - August for specialist working 3+ river blocks.
For internal candidates, you will receive an additional 100 field credit bonus.
Access to seasonal staff benefits (professional development funds, pro-deal, etc.).
Food stipend for river blocks.
