Job Description
This is a leadership/supervisory position responsible for a section of Professional Wetland Scientists, Biologists, and Environmental Analysts performing the review and analysis of the natural resource management (NRM) portions of Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) and Water Use Permit (WUP) applications, Formal Wetland Determinations (FWDs) and Sovereignty Submerged Lands (SSL) using accepted wetland mitigation practices, and wetland functional assessments such as the Wetland Rapid Assessment Procedure (WRAP) and the Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM) in accordance with new or established criteria in a deadline-driven environment.
The position will be located at the Fort Myers Service Center. After 6 months of employment, a partial remote work schedule may be available.
Job Duties:
The selected candidate will provide leadership through effective communication and mentorship of staff. Candidate will demonstrate independent judgment to the degree appropriate for the situation, must schedule and manage time to meet strict deadlines and complete projects and perform tasks independently and with minimal direction and guidance. Candidate will maintain close communication with the Section Leader and Section Administrator on various issues and matters, including the status of deliverables and assignments.
The position requires knowledge of and experience in the following:
Employment Guidelines:
Master’s Degree in Biology, Wetland Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or other natural or physical science, and 8 years of qualifying experience that demonstrates measurable career progression in natural resource management and two years of supervising scientific staff or assisting a manager lead a department. Prior experience analyzing ERP application documentation, preparing staff reports, using regulatory databases, and familiarity with SFWMD business processes is preferred. An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
License(s) / Certification(s):
Valid State of Florida Driver's License required.
Certified Wetland Evaluator (CWE) or the ability to receive within 6 months from date of hire.
Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or the ability to receive within 6 months from date of hire.
Physical Requirements/ Working Environment:
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
Both office and field work are required. Field work may be conducted throughout the year including inclement or harsh weather conditions. Field work often includes on and off-road vehicular travel and occasional helicopter surveillance.
Able to lift at least 40 pounds.

The salary offered for this position will range from Mid: $80,000 – Max: $105,000.
