The purpose of this classification is to divert the urban service district’s landfill bound waste toward a revenue generating alternative that will offset the Division of Waste Management’s operating costs; and, provide oversight in the expansion of recycling opportunities to include marketing materials in cooperation with outside businesses that bring recyclables to the Urban County Government’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
This classification works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Bachelor's degree or education and training equivalent to four (4) years of college education; and, four (4) years of experience in industrial/commercial/municipal waste management operations and waste recovery logistics and markets; or, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience with Microsoft Excel is required, as is experience with public speaking and making presentations using PowerPoint.
*Daily management of the facility and supervision of LFUCG and contract employees assigned to the MRF.
*Oversee the delivery of revenue generating products by waste management affiliates and calculate shares of revenues.
*Identify and correct workplace safety deficiencies at all times.
*Manage and direct plant processing activities in a fast paced, multi-task environment.
*Manage and direct the shipment of finished goods to comply with mill quality standards, transportation requirement, export documentation, etc.
*Manage all plant maintenance activities, Preventative Maintenance Program, and care of the facility, including processing equipment, balers, sorting systems, rolling stock, etc.
*Maintain maintenance records, including repair costs, detail of repairs, and downtime tracking and history.
*Conduct all duties necessary for the efficient operation of the facility, soliciting as necessary the approval of the division director for the implementation of resource reallocation, operational/capital procurements, employee discipline, etc.
*Develop and implement workforce goals and directives designed to increase the accountability, efficiency and productivity of the workforce assigned to the MRF.
*Review all accounting processes and procedures at the MRF and provide recommendations to the division director.
Must be able to operate Urban County Government equipment and vehicles in a safe, prudent and responsible manner.
