OPPORTUNITY 

Environmental Incentives seeks to hire a MI2 LAC Team Lead to join our growing Biodiversity Portfolio to support USAID’s Measuring Impact II (MI2) activity in the LAC region. Under this activity, we are working with USAID to build the capacity of its thought leaders, mission staff, and Washington bureaus to apply evidence-based adaptive management across USAID’s biodiversity portfolio.  

The work of the MI2 team includes assisting USAID staff to incorporate core concepts of the Conservation Standards into activity design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and learning; conducting research, evaluations, and assessments; planning and facilitating workshops and learning activities (virtual and in-person as circumstances allow); developing communications plans and products and ensuring excellent knowledge management; and delivering Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning support. This includes support to agency-wide and regional learning agendas and cross-mission learning programs, producing webinars, developing case studies, and organizing learning events. 

The MI2 LAC Team Lead will work directly with EI’s Lima-based team and staff located in the region and in Washington. Under the direction of the MI2 Chief of Party, the LAC Team Lead will manage the delivery of technical assistance provided by MI2 to the USAID South America Regional and Peru Missions, including extensive client management and support. In this role, you will be relied on to both facilitate and coach USAID and EI staff to apply Conservation Standards concepts and tools throughout implementation of the USAID Program Cycle and in development of products and services. You will also be expected to quickly grasp complex coordination needs and set clear paths for team members and clients alike, managing adaptively in response to emerging priorities. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

As the MI2 LAC Team Lead, you will be taking on a variety of client- and internally focused tasks that include technical project implementation, and project management. With a growth mindset focused on learning and improving your skills over time, you will: 

  • Manage relationships with client teams in Washington DC and in Missions operating in the LAC region to understand USAID needs and priorities for MI2 technical support.  
  • Coach and mentor a team of EI staff, consultants and subcontractors to deliver quality services and meet client needs, ensuring the team feels valued, engaged, and challenged.
  • Oversee implementation of contracted work, providing strong quality assurance and quality control of all deliverables and proactively address implementation challenges and define course corrections to ensure completion of program deliverables on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate and provide in-person or virtual technical assistance to help Washington DC operating unit and Missions to incorporate Conservation Standards concepts and tools into program design, monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
    • Provide technical support to implementing best practices in adaptive management for biodiversity conservation and utilizing evidence and learning to strengthen biodiversity programming.
    • Ensure the procurement and delivery of technical assistance in other areas such as conservation enterprise, climate change, marine, sustainable agriculture and crime, and the environment as needed. 
    • Develop work plans and budget to deliver technical support, in consultation with MI2 senior management and staff and USAID.  
  • Contribute to MI2 project-wide learning 
    • Provide contributions to planning and executing annual pause and reflect workshops
    • Ensure the lessons learned through MI2 are documented and applied to implementation. 
  • Lead product, process, and workstream development teams on both internal and client initiatives, and make informed decisions through the scoping, production, and review processes. Independently scope and develop high-quality and insightful products and move workstreams or small projects from conceptualization to delivery with input from colleagues and clients.
  • Take initiative in identifying value and learning across products, clients, and teams and actively promote that learning in internal and external venues.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of experience; Master's degree and 5+ years relevant experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience applying Conservation Standards to program design, implementation, learning and adapting and serving as the lead or primary process facilitator.  
  • Experience leading multiple client teams to develop long-term solutions that involve complex technical issues and/or challenging client management. 
  • Professional working proficiency in Spanish (written and verbal communication skills).Professional working proficiency is defined as being:
    • Able to use the language effectively in most formal and informal written exchanges on practical, social and professional topics.
    • Able to speak the language with sufficient structural accuracy and vocabulary to participate effectively in most conversations on practical, social, and professional topics.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience coaching and mentoring others to apply Conservation Standards to program design, implementation, learning and adapting. 
  • Experience working on issues related to biodiversity conservation, nature-based solutions, climate and integrated development in the LAC region  
  • Proven (preferably, field-based) experience leading initiatives in international development and international environmental conservation
  • Experience managing multiple client relationships, including co-creating visions of success with clients and executives and managing the contributions of multiple expert contributors and teams to deliver a variety of products that support that vision. 
  • Experience managing the work of senior staff and coaching other team members in your area of technical expertise and creating client deliverables in that area.

  • Ability to use and, to a limited extent, troubleshoot a variety of online, desktop productivity, and collaboration software including Microsoft Office Suite (including Teams), Google Office Suite, Zoom, Mural, Miro, etc. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 30% of the time. 
  • Legally authorized to work in the US or Peru with no restrictions. 
  • Criminal background check is required. 

BASE STATION AND COVID-19 POLICY 

The position will be based in Washington, D.C. or Peru, with a strong preference for it to be based in DC. Environmental Incentives is implementing a hybrid work model in which employees will be required to work in the office approximately two days per week.

Proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 or legally authorized exemption is required for all Environmental Incentives employees working in the United States, regardless of office location or remote work. Selected candidates will be required to provide proof of full vaccination before beginning employment with Environmental Incentives. Full vaccination is defined as 2 weeks after the final dose of the requisite vaccination.
