Position Overview

We are currently looking to add a dynamic Project Manager to our passionate team of landscape professionals. Your office is outdoors, and you get a new view every day! 

The Sports Turf Project Manager reports directly to the Sports Turf Account Manager. Under his/her  supervision, the Sports Turf Project Manager directs and participates in the maintenance of sports fields and related work as required. He/she typically supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment. You must also be able to do regular maintenance of equipment as well as perform some repairs and troubleshoot problems. 

Job Duties

  • Cultivate your green team and watch them grow with Davey! 

  • Supervise and develop a safety culture and work standards for a full work crew, often working as a part of the team. 

  • Complete crew administrative duties including equipment and other material deliveries, determine production schedule, read blueprints, order and manage job site materials. 

  • Create and build relationships, understand the client’s needs, create and meet expectations. 

  • Conduct and participate in employee training. 

  • Assists in planning, supervising and executing the maintenance of athletic fields (natural grass and synthetic surfaces) 

  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment and/or operates mowing and other equipment; supervises chemical applications and/or operates and calibrates chemical application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems. 

  • Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and training, and may also modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation. 

Additional Information

This job includes, but is not limited to: 

All types of sports field maintenance labor such as: 

Turfgrass Management 

Sod cutting and installation 

Irrigation management 

Mowing, trimming and use of blowers 

Fertilizing with a walk-behind fertilizer 

Field markings and logo painting 

Cultural Practices 

The operation and maintenance of power equipment such as: 

Reel and rotary mowers 

Tractors 

Utility vehicles 

Backpack blowers 

Trimmers 

Top-dressers 

Aerators 

Backhoes, Bobcats 

Dump trucks, trucks and trailers  

Qualifications

Working knowledge of the maintenance of sports fields; the seeding, sodding and maintenance practices for sports field turfgrass and synthetic surfaces; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners, herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls. Some knowledge of athletic field construction and renovation would be a plus.  

High level of understanding of the sport’s governing bodies’ requirements for field layouts and markings 

Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of crew and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and employer communication 

Valid commercial driver's license (CDL a big plus) or willing to obtain one within 90 days of employment. 

Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, and CPR training. 

Current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator (3a, 6).  

Must have a minimum of a 2-year degree in turf or related field.  

Would prefer a minimum of 3-years field experience.
