Research & Analytics Manager

 What We Need

ACP seeks a Research & Analytics Manager to help support the association’s analytic agenda through federal and state policy research, electric sector analysis, data collection and management, economic impact analysis, and market modeling.  

What You Will Do

Reporting to the Vice President of Research & Analytics, this position will inform strategic planning and drive member value through the development of industry reports, collateral, datasets, and fact sheets. The incumbent will support ACP in maintaining a fluent awareness of market trends and commercial activities, using quantitative methods to evaluate the impact of potential and existing policies on the industry. This position will effectively represent the clean power industry before policy makers, industry stakeholders, members, and the media. 

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities  

In this role, the Research & Analytics Manager will lead association and industry efforts on issues requiring extensive data analysis and technical competence, developing industry market reports covering a wide range of clean power sectors. As envisioned, this will include:  

• Industry market reports: Lead ACP’s development of industry market reports covering solar, storage, wind, and offshore wind as well as the broader electric sector.  
• Research: Use broad research methods to collect industry information from sources including the Energy Information Administration, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, state utility regulators, and member outreach. 
• Data Analysis: Leverage data analysis technologies to collect, organize, store, and analyze data and information for publication in industry reports, fact sheets, or similar ACP collateral. 

• Database Management: Develop and enhance database systems, processes, and reporting interfaces to keep the team and wider department aware of critical market information.  
• Strategic Planning: Conduct market trend analyses and identify new sources of data collection, build tools, data models, and dashboards to inform and support strategic decision-making and drive member value. 
• Policy Analysis: Evaluate the impact of potential and existing policies on the industry through research, analysis, member communication, and external stakeholder communication.  
• Advocacy: Represent the industry before members, policy makers, industry leaders, media and others, serving as both a staff expert and as a public advocate for the industry. Leverage association data products and analysis to support public proceedings, legislative session, and other association actions to advance strategic objectives.  
• Collaboration: Serve as an expert reviewer of material prepared by other internal departments. Occasionally support conference and education events on program development, speakers, and strategy.

Education and/or Experience 

Qualified applicants may possess any combination of education and experience enabling them to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as economics, engineering, statistics, or computer science preferred. Master’s degree a plus. Five or more years of industry experience preferred, ideally with demonstrated experience in policy, advocacy, or research.  

Skills and Abilities  

• Strong quantitative analysis skills, with proven ability to work with large, complex datasets. 
• Attention to detail and robust data management skills. The ideal candidate must enjoy collecting, curating, and working with large amounts of data. 
• Solid understanding of the technical features of the electric industry. Awareness of the major political and regulatory issues and topics impacting the U.S. wind, solar, and storage industries. 
• Strong written and oral communication, with the ability to tailor information to audiences of varying technical capabilities. Technical writing and editing skills a must. 

• Ability to use spreadsheet and presentation software, including Excel and PowerPoint. Advanced analytical software skills including Tableau, SQL, R, Python, etc. preferred. 
• Ability to prioritize and complete a variety of tasks efficiently. 
• Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

A high level of interpersonal skills is important to interact effectively with a wide range of people including other ACP staff, ACP members, federal agency staff, and others.
