Job Description

The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) is seeking an Intern for the Department of Planning & Sustainability to provide assistance to MORPC’s energy planning and air quality program work, as well as active transportation. The selected intern will develop a clear understanding of regional planning and more specifically, air quality and energy planning. 

Examples of Duties

Assignments will include working with MORPC staff on a variety of planning projects with focus on both energy and air quality projects. Tasks include conducting research and developing documents. More specifically, some of the work will be related to emission analysis, updating MORPC’s solar toolkit, assisting with air quality messaging, education, and marketing. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting independent research, identifying marketing and outreach strategies, and preparing interpretive reports and presentations. The Intern works under the direct supervision of full-time staff. 

Typical Qualifications

This position requires strong communication skills (both written and verbal), marketing, research, and organizational skills are essential. Project management skills are useful. A general understanding of sustainability issues. Technical skills and data analysis are a plus. Working knowledge of MS Office is essential, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. This is a team-oriented position, although the applicant must possess the ability to work independently. Individual must have a strong work ethic, be a team player, and have ability to establish good working relationships with peers.

Applicant must be currently enrolled in a college or university program. Fields related to City and Regional Planning, Sustainability, Environment, Geography, Public Policy, Transportation, or Urban Planning are preferred. Graduate-level candidates are highly encouraged to apply.

Supplemental Information

Estimated start date is March 1, 2021. Interns typically are employed up to 20 hours per week during semesters with classes and up to 40 hours per week during academic breaks. Ability to telework is required at this time.
