Job Description


LSA is seeking a Senior Water Quality Specialist with environmental planning experience. Under the direction of a Principal in Charge, the Water Quality Specialist will prepare technical reports (e.g., Water Quality Assessment Reports and floodplain analyses) and environmental documentation, primarily in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) (e.g., Initial Studies and Environmental Impact Reports [EIRs]). The Water Quality Specialist must have the ability to pursue and obtain new business opportunities for water quality and/or environmental services, prepare effective technical proposals and take an active leadership role in the development of new business with existing and new clients.

Strong emphasis will be placed on previous technical experience, quality of work, and the ability to manage budgets and schedules. Excellent communication skills, willingness to collaborate with others, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential. Candidates must have excellent writing skills.

This position can be located in any of LSA’s southern California office locations.


  • 5-10 years of increasingly responsible experience with the preparation of water quality technical reports, as well as knowledge of related federal, State, and local environmental statutes and regulations
  • Strong background in water quality/hydrology/stormwater management
  • Experience with the preparation of documents that comply with CEQA and/or NEPA, as well as knowledge of related federal, State, and local environmental statutes and regulations
  • Experience with review and preparation of Caltrans required water quality documentation.
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Preferred) in environmental/civil engineering (or related field)
  • PE not required
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Excellent organization, schedule, and budget-management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work as a member of a fast-paced team
  • Experience in a private environmental consulting firm preferred, but not required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
