You possess exceptional analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, and a passion to meet and exceed client needs.  You are a creative problem solver, savvy negotiator of electricity contracts with superior listening and communication skills. You enjoy a highly collaborative environment that enables you to successfully lead the execution of client engagements.  


The 3Degrees Energy & Climate Practice helps organizations reduce their greenhouse gas emissions worldwide through renewable energy and decarbonized transportation solutions. This role is an exceptional opportunity to bring your domain expertise to participate in the development & expansion of our practice in EMEA.  Our clients include some of the largest and most respected companies on the planet, as well as educational institutions and other non-profits.  

Directors form the leadership backbone of our Energy & Climate Practice, the consulting team at 3Degrees.   As a Director you will lead the day-to-day execution of client engagements while guiding and developing individual team members.  You will work directly with our most important clients and take ownership of engagements to ensure your clients’ expectations are met.   

The Director also plays a leading role in new business development and strategic pursuits alongside our business partners in sales, marketing, and across the 3Degrees lines business. 


This position has four core functions:

1) Serve as a Director on accounts and projects throughout our practice.  We advise on energy and transportation-related sustainability for client needs around the world, including needs which occasionally branch outside the energy and transportation realms.   

  • Manage all aspects of project delivery including scope, schedule, budget, and client stakeholders  

  • Translate client needs into deliverables and work tasks

  • Deliver client work products while managing team members assigned to the project

  • Analyze project delivery risks and establish contingency plans for mitigating those risks

  • Proactively track, analyze and report on actual project performance against the plan 

2) Identify and secure new business alongside our Marketing and Business Development teams.  

  • Lead the consulting contribution to new client business development – acting as a consulting subject matter expert across our areas of expertise, discussing and then developing scopes of work alongside potential clients, preparing proposals as agreed with clients or requested via RFPs, pricing our work, and working collaboratively with the sales team to secure new business.  

  • Foster new business opportunities within existing clients – identifying areas of need and working with the client to establish new plans of work 

3) Through reputation, contacts and capability, increase our attractiveness to our targeted client base. 

  • Play a visible role in representing 3Degrees in industry forums; 

  • Working with our Marketing team, author blog posts, share news and otherwise work to increase our visibility, differentiation and reputation.

4)  Play an active role in the operational excellence and growth of our Practice and our company. 3Degrees is large enough to make a huge difference in the world and small enough that YOU can make a huge difference here.  Our Engagement Managers are in high demand for cross-company initiatives.    


  • Prior consulting experience at a strategic level, but capable and comfortable with hands-on analysis.   

  • Originating or delivering on VPPA/PPA transactions with clients preferred

  • Strong understanding of VPPAs, PPAs,  Environmental Attribute Certificate (EACs) and GOs. RECs, IRECs and/or Carbon Offsets preferred.

  • Deep domain expertise in renewable energy and/or transportation and/or climate mitigation strategies for multinational corporations; alternatively, we may consider expertise in other environmental domains if it comes alongside considerable experience running a consulting team.

  • People management and development experience;  specifically managing, coaching and mentoring a multi-national team of resources to successfully execute projects

  • Extensive experience (at least 8 years) developing and executing environmental program strategies, including tasks such as obtaining budget and decision-maker approvals, reviewing and negotiating complex contracts, solving difficult problems with few resources, educating stakeholders.

  • Success managing consulting engagements with large national and global commercial customers.

  • A passion for serving client needs; joy in other peoples’ success; empathy and superior listening skills

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including experience making presentations to external clients, client stakeholders, prospects, internal stakeholders, and the public

  • It’s difficult to be successful here without a good head for numbers, regardless of your experience level. Our most successful team members have a Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or economics, and graduate degrees are common 


  • Within 3-6 months you are independently leading VPPA and Renewable Energy strategy engagements

  • Within 3-6 months you are successfully fostering, mentoring and guiding teams of junior and mid-level team members to meet client expectations

  • Within 3-6 months you are effectively collaborating with 3Degrees Business Development teams to close and deliver high-value projects
