Summary

About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Services Division. This is an interdisciplinary position which may be filled by any of the following series: Environmental Engineer (0819) or Physical Scientist (1301).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and modifies the Air Operating Permit application which includes determining regulatory applicability through in-depth research and analysis and developing record keeping plans through operation evaluation and feasibility studies.
  • Performs on-site inspections of equipment to gather data and determine compliance. Inspections frequently require considerable walking, standing, bending, climbing or stooping to reach equipment.
  • Negotiates favorable permit limits with NC DAQ Central Office staff with respect to national security air quality related training activities that have the potential to impact ambient air quality.
  • Reviews projects, programs, and plans for compliance with NEPA and other local, state, and Federal environmental laws.
  • Coordinates with various installations, state, and federal environmental resource and compliance personnel on new regulations and the impacts.
  • Prepares studies, briefing charts, reports, correspondence, etc. on various technical and administrative matters pertaining to the program and presents briefings.

  • Serves as environmental engineer with responsibility for preparing written technical guidance and documentation on complex projects/studies associated with the Clean Air Act.
