Job Description

The primary role of the Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) Environmental Stewart is to evaluate the Refuse and Recycling Program, carry out investigations, report incidents to PM and enforce compliance with solid waste rules, regulations, policies, and recycling programs. This position reports to the ISWM Site Project Manager.


  • Keep the Project Manager informed on the status of the QC Program and provide recommendations.
  • Investigate complaints regarding the caliber or deficiencies attributed to the disposal of refuse or recycling collection practices such as garbage spills, contaminated recycling bins and/or containers, and drop-off center cleanliness.Determine the root cause of deficiencies and initiating corrective action to employees.
  • Communicate with customers regarding the proper techniques for disposing of refuse and recyclables, respond to all complaints and prepare written responses on all Contract Deficiency Reports.
  • Educate customers on solid waste programs, and assists in developing educational materials regarding departmental programs.
  • Assist Project Manager during special events and or customer events onsite.
  • Provide flyers to the customer regarding solid waste and other unacceptable materials and inform the customer about proper disposal and recycling methods during waste load inspections.
  • Maintains records and prepares reports by completing appropriate forms and/or input data into the database.
  • Conduct inspections on waste loads from all types of waste generators to ensure that hazardous waste and prohibited materials are not inadvertently landfilled.
  • Schedule, conduct, and document surveillance inspections, propose recommendations to continuously improve Quality and conduct trend analysis.
  • Represent the company to the customers in matters of solid waste field operations regarding customer service, safety, and operational issues. Ensure improvements are initiated to eliminate continuing problems.
  • Attend site inspections with the customer, regulatory agencies, etc.
  • Enforce proper safety standards and precautions. Provide Safety Training to all onsite employees. Has authority to direct production employees to take immediate corrective action on minor deficiencies.
  • Enforce education awareness at the client site to enhance and increase diversion goals.
  • Represent the company to the client in matters of solid waste field operations regarding customer service, safety, and operational issues. Investigate and take appropriate action in response to client complaints or inquiries. Ensure improvements are initiated to eliminate continuing problems.
  • Enforce proper safety standards and precautions.
  • Ensure waste disposal activities are in compliance with health, federal, state and local ordinances and regulations pertaining to the collection and disposal of all solid waste, including overseeing the preparation and maintenance of compliance reports and records.
  • Prepare records and monthly client reports on disposal activities, such as quantities of waste handled, receipts from operations, actions are taken, etc. Maintain all Quality Control records.
  • Enforce education awareness at the client site to enhance and increase diversion goals.
  • Research improvement opportunities to efficiencies in the ISWM program.
  • Perform waste audits and implement changes to increase diversion goals.
  • Other tasks as assigned.


The Environmental Steward(s) shall:

  • Be the on-site subject matter expert (SME) to progress the goal of net-zero waste and landfill diversion
  • Reviews the recycling, diversion, and landfill rates to propose efforts to create efficiencies in reduction, reuse, recycling, and rot
  • Suggests sustainable pilot programs, when implemented, for Government review

The Contractor Environmental Steward(s) shall:

  • Be fluent in English
  • Have Bachelor of Science or Environmental Degree
  • Have ten (10) years of direct experience in environmental stewardship and sustainable management
  • Have a LEED Accreditation or Certifies as a Qualified Environmental Professional
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a multi-cultural environment
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at the same time and therefore have the know-how to manage time effectively
  • Must be results-oriented, take initiative and be self-motivated
  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties
  • Considerable knowledge of solid waste management rules, regulations, methods and procedures

Ability to obtain security background clearance
