Job Description

Summary: Manage foreman, field personnel and equipment as well as plan and execute assigned work or tasks by performing the following duties.


Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: Includes some or all of the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maximize production and exacting cost deficiencies in the operation of employees and equipment on the job
  • Organize from start to completion the operations within the most efficient possible manner and to the satisfaction of the client
  • Promptly attend to customer needs and concerns
  • Maintain accurate records of required paperwork. Secure permission to perform work from landowners
  • Understand, implement and manage loss control program
  • Organize and assign crews and equipment to perform the required work
  • Develop and motivate crew members to achieve desired productivity and job performance
  • Discipline employees who violate company policies or procedures
  • Understand and implement accident control program
  • Settle promptly all damage complaints that stem from production activities
  • Investigate accidents and promptly report to appropriate persons/entities
  • Understand all line clearing and basic tree surgery practices, herbicide applications, right-of-way maintenance procedures, safe removal of trees, pruning of trees in and around high tension lines
  • Maintain assigned equipment in an efficient, safe and economical manner (truck, chipper, crane, aerial lift, sprayer, hand saw, chain saw, sledge hammer, dump truck, shovel, rake, ropes, pulleys and related equipment)
  • Understand and implement preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Proper job site cleanup
  • Understand and follow all company policies, procedures and work rules
  • Conduct safety meetings including tailgate meetings
  • Conduct interviews and select employees
  • Train employees
  • Understand and perform first aid, CPR and aerial rescue procedures
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations and teach these rules and regulations to other employees
  • Follow all company policies, procedures and work rules
  • React appropriately in an emergency situation
  • Perform all duties as required
  • Report timely and accurately to supervisor

Education and Qualifications: An individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license required, Commercial driver’s license may be required
  • First aid, CPR and defensive driving course
  • Davey extension courses preferred
  • Experience as a Groundsperson or Tree Trimmer Trainee or related formal education or experience


Language Ability: Read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos. Write correspondence. Effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Bi-lingual in Spanish is beneficial


Math Ability: Perform basic arithmetic computations


Reasoning Ability: Apply reasonable understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Identify and resolve problems involving multiple variables in varied situations


Computer Skills: Basic computer skills required


Certificates and Licenses:

  • Obtain and maintain required licenses and certifications
  • Pesticide or other license, if required by state law


Supervisory Responsibilities: Manage, direct and supervise Foreman and field personnel, assign duties to crew members as necessary to safely and properly complete assigned tasks, duties or jobs

  • Exert up to 100lbs of force occasionally, up to 50lbs of force frequently and up to 20lbs of force constantly to move objects.
  • Exert enough force to lift own body weight up a rope into a tree
  • Climb (i.e. trees, ladders) using feet, legs, arms and hands
  • Stand and walk at and around the work site
  • Reach (i.e. extending arms, hands and fingers) and handle (holding and grasping tools, limbs, etc.) and twist
  • Balance (when using equipment) pull and push (i.e. wheelbarrow)
  • See and judge the distance of objects
  • Perform the desired tasks in the presence of distractions or work frustrations
  • Obtain and select pertinent information through investigative, observation and questioning, including organizing and combining different pieces of information into meaningful order to identify problems
  • Regular and timely attendance
