Come join us and help shape the future! WSP is currently initiating a search for a Enviromental Planner Director for our Texas Mountain region, focusing on operations in Colorado and Utah. We have an immediate opening for a highly skilled, experienced and motivated National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) planner. The Director is expected to serve as a project manager, assist with various environmental tasks related to the preparation of NEPA documents. This position will work closely with environmental and planning staff in our Texas/Mountian region to prepare NEPA documentation for transportation (i.e. highway, transit) projects and non-transportation projects.  Additional key responsibilities of this position include managing projects and tasks, mentoring staff, building and maintaining client relationships, and participating in business development activities to help achieve the sales, revenue, and project delivery goals in Colorado and Utah. The successful candidate must be a team player and a self-starter, demonstrate strong analytical, communication, collaboration, technical, supervisory and business skills and have a demonstrated working knowledge of NEPA, and other legislation and regulations that guide the environmental review process.  Experience in Colorado and Utah and other nearby states and experience with CDOT/UDOT environmental procedures is desirable, but not required. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Developing business with existing and new clients in Colorado and Utah
  • Managing projects and successfully delivering projects, including staffing, budget and quality
  • Collecting, analyzing and interpreting analytic and written data (i.e. economic, demographic, fiscal, legal, natural resources, etc.)
  • Composing correspondence and reports for project activities
  • Technical writing and report preparation
  • Participating and coordinating public and stakeholder public meetings and public participation/outreach processes
  • Developing strong working relationships with clients and teaming partners
  • Managing and mentoring staff
  • Collaborating extensively with other business units within Colorado and Utah and WSPs Texas/Mountian Region for business development and project delivery

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of at least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental planning/NEPA and related documentation.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Planning, Geography or a related discipline is required;
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, the requirements of NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) as it applies to transportation projects.
  • Ability to develop business plans and grow existing operations
  • Ability to effectively present and communicate ideas orally and in written form
  • Critical, strategic and creative thinking skills
  • Computer skills (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS)
  • Ability to gather and analyze data critically and develop supporting information and reports
  • Understanding of project administration and management
  • Experience with project financials
  • Possess a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and positive attitude
  • Must be a team player and be able to communicate between business lines and offices
  • Ability to travel on occasion

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Environmental Planning or related discipline
  • Active involvement in TRB, NAEP, or related professional societies
  • NEPA experience with projects other than transportation
  • Knowledge of and experience with CDOT and/or UDOT environmental projects
  • In depth knowledge of waterway permits, noise, and resource agency experience
  • Desirably, the candidate will have 5+ years of experience in the functional responsibilities of project delivery and the principles of project management
