Environmental Engineer II

Cardno is a global professional infrastructure and environmental services company, with expertise in the development and improvement of physical and social infrastructure for communities around the world.

Cardno is seeking an Environmental Engineer in our Petaluma, California office to oversee the remediation of a portfolio of contaminated sites for clients that provide essential services to critical infrastructure.  This position will include a combination of field and office work. OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred, but not necessary and can be provided.

The projects primarily involve environmental assessment, remedial activities, and liability management, within the energy sector. The ideal candidate will have prior experience providing environmental engineering. The engineer will be responsible for project setup, staff and subcontractor supervision, design drawings, and maintaining remediation system operations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare work plans, site conceptual models, permit applications, and system design drawings, remediation system design calculation and specifications, and RFPs
  • Coordinate and oversee technicians and subcontractors performing remediation work
  • Perform remediation system operation and maintenance, optimization, troubleshooting, repair, data collection, and review


  • BS or BA in engineering, or a related field
  • 4 - 7 years of experience in Environmental work, 4 or more years preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship
  • Excellent writing skills, attention to detail, and an ability to work independently
  • Willing and able to travel and to stay overnight
  • Ability to perform field work including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical and follow stringent Health & Safety policies
  • Able to drive company vehicle (acceptable motor vehicle record)

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training
  • Electronic controls experience and a mechanical aptitude
  • EIT certification

The selected candidate will be need to complete a drug and alcohol screen, HAZWOPR physical, background check, driving record check, and records/references review.
