Job Description

The sPower finance team is comprised of over 30 members, divided into Structured Finance, M&A, FP&A, Accounting, Tax, Treasury as well as working with the development team’s Origination department. The rotation program will cover four of those areas over two years. At the end of the two-year program, analysts will join a group permanently.  We’re looking for smart, motivated individuals with diverse and educational backgrounds to help drive our future success and share in our collective achievements.


The position will be a permanent hire in Salt Lake City.  The rotation would then likely be the following:

(1) Structured Finance, (2) Treasury, (3) Origination, (4) M&A


Rotational Program offers

The sPower Rotational program is a two-year development program designed to (1) create a fundamental skill set in project finance and M&A, (2) teach crucial leadership skills and (3) provide a rich experience through a challenging, fast-paced rotational program. Candidates will get a holistic view of the company through cross-business unit and cross-functional rotations and participation in development opportunities, including mentoring, and exposure to executives. Candidates will have the opportunity to be paired with a mentor to build a strong relationship and establish short - and long- range career goals.  Active participation in the program will equip candidates with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive performance and integration among business functions


The Recruiting Process

Who is Eligible?

Candidates must be graduating with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree (MA is a plus). Degrees with a business focus (economics, finance, applied math, science, etc.) will be considered but the key is the person, not the degree. Strong candidates will exhibit the following:

  • Strong business and financial savvy with the ability to support a high-performance organization that will deliver operational excellence and meet or exceed financial targets
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills
  • Knowledge and capabilities to work in Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Diligent, detailed oriented, and dynamic. Able to self-organize priorities
  • Strong aptitude to learn complex concepts (tax rules, energy policy, financial structures, etc.)
  • Fun to work with


How is Performance on the Program Evaluated

Performance will be evaluated at two levels. Each hosting manager will evaluate candidates twice during the rotation: at the mid-point and upon completion. Upon completion of the two-year program, candidates will coordinate with hosting managers to transition to a full-time challenging position consistent with career interests and the needs of the company.


The Finance Group is Comprised of the Following Groups: 

  • Structured Finance – supports all aspects of project development, PPA execution and project construction with financial analysis and capital raising. The team is exposed to an assortment of innovative financing options. This variety of deals requires team members to adapt to each one quickly and it presents the opportunity to learn from unique interconnected financial, legal, tax, and project execution challenges. In 2018, the team raised approximately $1.3 billion in construction debt and tax equity. The rotational analyst will be responsible for the financial modeling of tax equity and debt transactions and will be a key deal team member supporting the execution and financial closing for sPower renewable energy projects.
  • Mergers & Acquisitions – focused on analyzing potential project acquisitions in all stages of development which would support sPower’s continued growth. The team members screen all potential deals by gathering supporting information on the asset’s projected cash flows and development status (including engineering, interconnection, permitting, etc.). In 2018, the team acquired a $39 million interest in a project based in Idaho and screened over [ ] projects. The Rotational Analyst will be expected to participate in the financial modeling and due diligence process for all potential acquisitions.
  • Treasury – Oversees and maintains the sPower’s cash forecasting process, works with project managers to forecast future costs, coordinates cash forecast items and payments, processes capital call requests and parent loans with company’s shareholders, cash draws on revolving line of credit, manage issuance letters of credit
  • Accounting – responsible for supervising all day-to-day operations of the sPower’s accounting including review of account reconciliations, management of the month-end close process, accounts payable, journal entries, intercompany transactions, prepaid and leasing transactions and providing accurate and timely financial reports.
  • Tax – responsible for managing and coordinating sPower’s process over Hypothetical Liquidation at Book Value (HLBV) accounting including updating and managing the related models as well as making the appropriate journal entries. This position will also coordinate and manage several other tax accounting matters as needed.
  • FP&A – responsible for managing and coordinating sPower’s GAAP budgeting and forecast processes and plays a key role in company’s monthly reporting processes. Works with various corporate directors to develop and build budgets and forecasts, management of sPower’s adaptive planning system.
  • Origination (Development Team) - work with the team to craft proposals to sell the power from our solar, wind and storage assets to utilities, banks and increasing the large corporate buyers (like Microsoft and Facebook).
