Job Description

Overview: One MS position focused on sustainable forest land management and planning.

Opportunity Description: The project goals are to a) develop an understanding of landowner needs with respect to planning and decision making, b) develop and test models for optimizing forest management decisions that span ecological, social, and economic objectives, and c) develop a platform (web-based, software, or app) for landowners to use the models within land planning and management decision processes. The student will be supervised by Chadwick Rittenhouse and be a student of the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment at the University of Connecticut.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in ecology, environmental science, forestry, geography, or related disciplines prior to position start in January 2020. Applicants should have a strong academic record as demonstrated by a 3.0 or higher GPA and competitive GRE scores. Demonstrated skills in GIS, software or app development, decision making approaches, and working with people are desired.

Salary: Position will consist of GRA or GTA support, health benefits, and tuition waiver as determined by the University.
